Shifter Switch Wiring "HELP NEEDED"

Hi, recently purchased an 88 IROC with a 5.7 TPI, i700r trans, it has a B&M Shifter (don't know what kind), the problem is the car starts in drive and reverse, (it starts everywhere,) I got the correct switches on the shifter from B&M I replaced them as a place to start, however they old ones were ok, I still have the problem, I don't have any thing (schematic) to check the wiring against to see if it's wired properly. There seems to be a factory switch or relay or whatever that purple and yellow wires go into.
I'm replacing that as well because when I moved it around to inspect it a connector tab broke off where a yellow wire goes in. Anyone that can help with wiring or tell me where the wires on the 2 switches on shifter should go will be my hero, thanks

Use an ohmmeter to determine if the new start lockout switch is aligned.

Original wire colors which go to the lockout are purple and tan/white.

When those 2 wires are connected you can start the car.

If you can still start in gear you will have to troubleshoot/un-alter it.

Happy Racing!

Fog lights are not driving lights. They look dorky. Turn em off slow pokes.

How bout those dorks too scared to drive without headlights on in the daytime!

Re: Shifter Switch Wiring "HELP NEEDED"

You can order a factory service manual set from your dealer or from here...
http://www.helminc.com

A 99 set I have has about 3000 pages (4 big books) of detailed, troubleshooting instructions, wiring diagrams, DTC codes, part replacement instructions, etc. And all for one specific year and type of vehicle!
