I have an 86 firebird and the odometer stopped working 2 years ago and its stuck on 22K miles. I need to get this fixed to keep the value correct. My mechanic looked at the cable under the car and its OK, he sais its in the dash. What do I do. ?
Does the speedometer work? If it does this should drive the odometer if the speedo does not work it is possible that the connection came off at the back of the speedo.
Sound like it is is the speedo assembly then. I never had one apart.I am certian that the odometer works off the speedometer drive it must have a gear broken. It was working when you bought the car? I
According to CARFAX, the miles stopped ticking 2 years ago. I have had it one year but never drive it. By looking at the car you can tell it only has 22k miles, but i will have a hard time selling it with the miles not moving.
Not to get off subject but I would not believe that I would be willing to bet that someone trampered with it and broke it. I would check with a local speedometer shop and see what the average repair will cost you or just find a low mileage speedo assembly and replace it.
