Who uses a scanner?

Trying to find a good scanner for use with 80's GM CCC systems but no one really knows much about them. I'm not looking for a code reader, but an actual real time scanner that tells you all the info your ECM is seeing ( like TPS voltage, temp sensor reading, EGR on/off, dwell etc. ).

So what's a good affordable scanner and where's a good place to pick one up?

EDIT; I see I have posted this in the wrong section. I'm not used to your message boards having so many categories.

Re: Who uses a scanner?

I picked up an Autoxray EZ-Scan 3000 off ebay for $80 several months ago. I use it on my daughters '84 CCC 305 T/A and my car with '95 LT1 drivetrain.

I just bought the 5000 version of that yesterday for a good price but don't have it yet.

I've been getting contradictory information on exactly what info this scanner will display in the old 80's C3 carbed cars. Care to share?

It will provide everything the ECM sees except for spark knocks/timing if your engine has the KS. The important stuff by my memory: voltage, temp, VAC voltage, TPS voltage, dwell, O2 counts, air diverter status, tcc lockup, vehicle speed, lean/rich. My 84 will show some timing info but it doesn't have a KS.

I've read that plugging it in disables knock retard while it's scanning. Either way it was no help to me a year or so ago when I was attempting to diagnose a spark knock/retard issue.
