wiring for dummies

I've just about finished putting together my 85 Z and have pretty much figured everything out. It's a TPI with an 87 roller cam engine and it runs with the exception of the temp guage and no charging voltage. Ihave discovered there is a missing wire from the post on the back of the alternator and I need to know where it goes. Starter? Battery? Both? Fusable link - how do I replace it? I bought the car with the engine completely disassembled and in boxes everything mixed together loose and it's the first FI project I've ever worked on. Pls help!

Re: wiring for dummies

I've got the two wire plug and the Haynes schematic that shows I think, the stud on the back of the alternator in a circuit with the starter and the battery but I suck at reading the schematic. Just how do the alternator battery and starter configure?
