Removed A/C. Need help wiring elec fan.

hey guys, need a little wiring help. Ive got an 86 iroc, 5.0 tpi, has the one single electric fan. Now ive had this car for like 12 years but its been sitting since like 2002 (stupid deer and blow rear seals) Anyway, I removed the A/C from it and the electric fan ceased to work. So i hot wired the fan to a switch in the cabin, but... no matter what kind of switch i put in the current seems to fry the switch and cook the wires. The last time i tried i had the power coming from stereo hot wire. (radio is out too, ive got undo a lot of the teenage "riggin" i did) So my question being, where should i run the the hot wire to the cabin from? directly from the battery? putting the a/c back in is something that i would eventually like to do but thats later down the road, seeing as how i dont even remember where it is at anymore. Thanks in advance for any help.

Fan Plan

The reason you’re melting switches is because you did not incorporate the fan relay.

The fan relay is located in the engine compartment on the firewall, near the brake booster. It’s the relay on the right.

Make your switch apply power to the relay coil.

Happy Racing!

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards

Fog lights are not driving lights. They look doofy. Turn em off slow pokes.

How bout those nervous nellies too scared to drive without headlights on in the daytime or if there is a little rain!
