couple of problems with headlights and horn

well problem number one would be with my headlights ive never driven the car at night because ive only had it about a month and a half but when following a friend to school yesterday my hibeams were on and he noticed that my inner pass side light was out so when i got there sure enough it was out so i shut the car off and went inside after school i got home and decided to look at it again and i now notice that both inners are out but when i hit the switch the outers get brighter but the inners dont come on what could this be? i really dont think that both lights would blow just like that
now on to the horn it wasnt working tested the horn it works then i realised that the horn relay under the dash was missing so i jumped two of the wires together and the horn went off so i figured ok i just need a relay i put the correct relay in there tonight and it still dosent work when i hit the horn button
any ideas guys?

thanks alot

Stock headlights are cheap and available at any auto parts store - cheapest easiest diagnosis is to buy one and plug it in - if it works plug it in the other side, if it still works then you know they just went out.

Re: couple of problems with headlights and horn

I agree with using a new bulb to test your lights. Another way is to use a cheap multimeter. They usually cost about 20 bucks and are very useful for diagnosing all kinds of problems. If you don't know how to use one all it takes is a little practice and you will get the hang of it. Set the meter on the lowest setting of the OHMS range. Remove the plugs on the back of the bulbs and probe the tabs on the bulbs. High beams are easy since there are only two. Low beams have three. Probe the center and one side first then the center and the other side. If you have resistance on all tests then the bulbs are good. Next test the grounds. Be sure the headlight switch is off. Good luck.
