Hi, I have a `91 Z28 350ci. Has anyone replaced the gauges in their instrument cluster for the Autometer type? I mean speedo, tach the lot but still retain the dasboard? Also, is there an adapter that you can retain the plug at the back of the cluster? Better still, is there a digital version of it?
Many thanks,
Tbass27.
90-92 is different form 82-89. Dakota Digital will have you send in a ready to install panel that they will retrofit their stuff into. Takes about 90 days turnaround time and cost about $1100.
This is the one I had done by Dakota Digital for my 92 RS about 5 years ago, it was about $900 then.
Nordskog makes one also for the 90-92 Camaro for $500, they have it labeled 91-92 though.
BTW, none of these are plug and play, there is alot of cut and splice to do to your harness so you can run signal wires to the panel's CPU. I spliced mine so that I could put a stock piece back in just by removing the taps from the wires.
Heavy wiring is involved, but you do retain your stock pins in the back. You need them so the circuit board on the back of the cluster can actuate your turn signals and warning lights.
You order them from www.nordskogperformance.net and set aside a day to get your hands dirty... They're not to hard to install... Though if you took it to a shop for them to do, expect to pay out the a$$ for labor...
I liked that site.
However the only way to do a trans am would be the universal create your own set up.
A little more expensive than other clusters but it looks like a fun project for the future.
On my to do list.
Appreciate the link.
Many thanks guy`s, you`ve just blown me away with whats out there. As soon as I get the car rebuilt with the goodies I am putting into it, it will be out there for you all to see.
Again, thanks for you help.

I thought there was a setup like this from autometer but had all autometer ultralite or phantom gauges, anyone know what I'm talking about? I saw it once in a firebird at a car show but that was a long time ago. I wonder if it was a hard install because they weren't digital.
