Jumped a relay now fuel pumps dead - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

My radiator fan was not coming on at all. I just replaced the motor so I know it works. So while the camaro was running I tryed jumping the radiator fan relay by touching the red and tan/white wire to see if the fan would come on. I held it the jumper wire there for maybe 3 seconds and the engine died. The fuel pump will not turn on now. I think I fried something or possibly blew a fuse somewhere. I checked all the fuses under the dash (I should have checked them to begin with) and found the fuse to the fan was blown. All the other fuses down there look good.

What fuses are in the engine compartment that I should check and where are they? Also I tried jumping the fuel pump relay and nothing happened. Did I fry my fuel pump?

There's an inline fuse near the battery which powers the ECM and fuel pump, I would check that.

I checked that inline fuse near the battery it looks good. Still cant figure out what the problem is.

Probably not.

Use a test light to see if you have power on pin A of the pump relay (ORANGE WIRE).

There is also a fusible link near the battery. Check and see if it looks burned or melted at all. Mine was half-melted, causing the fuel pump not to run - I cut it out and replaced it with an inline fuse holder and 30A fuse.

I used the test light on the pump relay on the orange, red, and the tan/white wire none of them worked. I tryed the test light also on the fan relay and from there the tan/white showed power. I also tryed the test light on the wires at the fusible link near the battery no power there either.

If you’re getting power out of the fusible link, but it’s not making it to the pump relay, you have a bad connection from the link to the socket.

Probe the run till you find drop off.

Trace the link back to the battery to find the break.

This fusible link near the battery is an orange and red wire. Are these the wires connected to the ecm that give power to the fuel pump relay? If so Is it possible I fried my ecm when attempting to jump the fan relay?

It is probable you damaged the ECM if you let power touch pin F.

Is there a way I can test to see if its the ecm causing the problem? If it is the ecm not telling the fuel pump to turn on could I just wire a switch so that I can send power directly to my fuel pump so that theres no need to replace the ecm?
Wheres the inline fuse for the alternator located I around it but did not see one. I read another thread where a guys fuel pump wasnt priming until he changed his alternator inline fuse apparently.

Yes you can however, so you don’t forget to turn the pump off before getting out of the car, you should wire it to the RUN/START part of the key.

If only the driver transistor which is in the ECM was blown, the rest of the ECM will work.

The closest fusible link associated with the alt is near the starter solenoid.

Hey there having a similar problem with my fuel pump......Could this be why there is a wire run from my coil to the orange wire in the fuel pump relay?

Yes, most likely the PO blew the fusible link on your car.
