Re: Wiring diagrams

Oil pressure was generally tan or brown. Green would be coolant gauge sender.

Ok yes the oil pressure is tan, I checked the wire diagram I have. This green wire with 8 volts going thru it has a female "spatula" connector on it for lack of the proper name for that style of connector. Its the same as the green wire thats on the window motor for the wiper "pulse" but this has to be a sensor wire or something. Could it be tachometer then?

Re: Wiring diagrams

Chevy G20 vans dont have stock tachometers so thats not included into the diagram, the diagrams for the 83 Camaro, at least the ones I have dont show me the tachometer sensor wire :/ The new oil pressure sender and coolant senders have 2 wires instead of the single wire the original 305 had. Its just coolant and oil pressure that I need to figure out, Ive been taking a break since Im out of cash at the moment to get a few last parts before I try to fire the engine.

Re: Wiring diagrams

You need to get the correct sending units. The oil pressure sender for the gauge will have one terminal. As will the coolant temp sender. Do not confuse the oil pressure sender with the oil pressure fuel pump switch which has two connectors. Also, don't confuse the oil pressure gauge sender whcih has one terminal and threads into the left cylinder head, with the CTS for the ECM which has two terminals and threads into the front of the intake manifold. The green wire with the "spatula" connector is to the coolant temp sender.

Re: Wiring diagrams

You convert it to jpg. and black and white to reduce the bit size of the pages and upload it to the link above at EagleMark.com DIY EFI. They are hosting the library for us. Youll see my 87 Camaro uploads. I'm about half way through the Electrical Diagnosis Suppliment.

Can you give me direct link to where these scans are being kept? I can't find nothing on the eagle-mark site.

Re: Wiring diagrams

Thanks Eaglemark for staying on top of this thread. I started back to work in April and haven't done anything on this project since. Still have more useful diagrams to upload. I think with what you already had, we've compiled a pretty good set already.

Might be good stuff there, but also complicated to look through & find what a person needs for their specific year/engine/tranny/section/whatever.

Glad your back to work in this economy!

There's no photo gallery anymore. Everything is split up to ECM specific threads. Members can have their own photo albums that can be public or private. Stuff that is not specific to ECM/PCM was just left there for you. I can upload anything you want to share there?

If you want it in some kind of specific order your welcome to start a thread? I think you could do the same here but the size of a wiring diagram would have to be zipped here. I try to keep all options open for useful size diagrams without zipping. Then there's copyright issues... so it's hard to share them openly. Most of them were Camaro specific which should be here, ECM/PCM specific is what GearHead-EFI.com is for sharing.

I offered a place for ASE Doc to put them and the offer is still there.

It may be useful to note that GM has a tendency to stay with certain design schemes and color codes over several years and across body styles. Therefore, by referring to diagrams, even for a different year and body style, one can gather clues to help solve a particular puzzle. Of course how helpful this information is depends one one's comfort level with auto electrical systems.

If there is any one general statement I can make with absolute certainty with regards to automotive wiring it is: PURCHASE A GOOD SOLDERING GUN AND LEARN HOW TO USE IT. Cover all soldered splices with marine grade heat shrink tubing. The marine grade heat shrink is coated inside with a hot melt sealer that makes the joint weather tight. Crimp connectors are not suitable for long term repairs and will almost certainly assure you of future electrical failures. If you have built your harness using many of these connectors, you will have a difficult time tracking down these future issues. If you must use crimp connectors in some part of your harness, spend the extra money for the type with heat shrink covering and use a heat gun to seal them. Also, a good set of crimpers, such as "Kline" brand are a necessity.
