Cluster lights not working.

Car: 84 Z-28
Engine: 355 4 bolt main
Transmission: 700 R4
Axle/Gears: Posi 3.73
Cluster lights not working.
Need to get a point in the right direction. Couple days ago my cluster lights quit working along with my marker lights. Pull the headlight swith and headlights still work, signal, and brake lights work as well. My first thought was the fuse I checked it had no power so I pulled it stuck another in its place still no power. I took the first fuse I pulled plugged it in a different spot it works fine. So my queston is it the switch or a wiring issue?

Check the tail light fuse.
Might also be the headlight switch, as the cluster lights are tapped off of that circuit, at the switch. (they come on when the tail/parking lights are on)

the cluster fuse (5A) won't have power to it unless the headlamp switch is in the 'on' position. power for the guage lights comes from the headlamp power wire at the switch, THROUGH the fuse, to the cluster.

Actually, it's the tail lamp part of the switch; the cluster lights are on when the tail/parking lights are on, not the headlamps. 
But you're exactly right about the order of things: power comes from the battery, to the headlight switch, through the taillight contact, to the taillight and cluster light fuses (meaning both of those will be powered only when the headlight switch is in a position that lights the tail/parking lights), and then onwards.

You may want to have a quick peek at the "AustinThirdGen" site about this . The fuse Marked "TAIL" is most certainly powered at all times and then feeds the taillight portion of the headlight switch . The taillight switched contact then powers the "INST" fuse upon being closed , and this powers the instrument lights .
For reference I checked 1984 "Body wiring" at Austin third gen .

Sorry it took me a week to say,but you guys are good. My headlight switch had went bad. Apparently in the process of it going bad it also fried the tail lamp fuse. So long story short one headlight switch and a fuse later I am legal to run at night again. Thanks again
