Weak Power Door Locks

If i push the lock button, my driver side door doesn't lock all the way, but the passenger side does. the little slide lock thingy doesn't go all the way in like the other side. so i have to push the button to lock the passenger side then push the lock manually on my driver door. can i just lube something in there, or do i need to find a new one or used one at a junk yard?

I had the same problem. I sprayed and wiped the linkages down with WD40 and worked the lock by hand a bunch of times. Have been working fine for years now.

This can be a little long and boring, but there are several things that can cause the problems of weak locks, and there are several possible fixes. First, make sure they dont work when the car is warm and the weather is warm. Almost all of my thirdgens have trouble with the power locks when the weather is cold, but they're fine in the summer. Also try pushing and holding the button for a second or two. The power lock is controlled by a solenoid, when you push and hold the button it puts a constant pull on the solenoid and may eventually pull it locked or unlocked. Also you can pull your door panel and spray silicone lube everyplace there's a guide on the lock rod, or a junction, etc... Chances are that when you get the doorpanel off the locks will work fine. If so you're dealing with the door panel interfering with the locks, and it might correct itself when you reassemble the door. Otherwise its possible the solenoid is worn, you may be able to refurbish it, or just replace it, but chances are you won't need to.
