Mine has a big shim under the bearing for that reason and was curious how far it was off. I am selling off a nine inch set now and some other stuff so when sells will have the money. |

| Re: 7.5 4.11 gears USPS quotes shipping at $15.93 so total would be $85.93. I don't know the exact size of the shim (I didn't install the gears). I bought a rearend with them already installed and I removed them for some 3.42s. They still have the yellow paste for checking gear mesh and the mesh pattern looks to be perfect. Let me know if/when you're ready.
Thanks,
John |

One thing see no posts on your name and know guys have been screwed out of money in the past over people who joined just to take money. Doesnt sound that way but do you have a ebay rating or does someone on teh board that has been around know you and can say it is all good. Cant be too careful even though it isnt a bunch of money but with not working right now 80 bucks is 80 bucks that could have paid bills and dont know anyone who whats to just give away money. I hope you dont take this wrong but have been told to watch for low numbered names. Let me know as I really need the gears.
thanks

| Re: 7.5 4.11 gears Joe,
No problem. I just joined the forum after I decided to swap a 350 TPI motor into my '72 Vega. I got alot of info in the TPI section and had the gears left over from the rearend I bought for the car. My ebay name is mazb2000 if you want to check my feedback. I don't know anyone else on the forum that can vouch for me but I spent alot of time on hondashadow.net when I had my bike. I'm sure a few folks over there remember me. I understand your concern so no offense taken.
Standing by,
John |

Have a pattern clear as day worn in to the gears. Under the paint it is shiny and worn. not worth more than 40 bucks. Now I might be getting into another set that is going to make noise. So hard to get a used set right on the money as they were and not have problems. Not sure how you thought they were new. So either give me a prartial refund or I send them back and you pay shipping + all my money. I have passed up on cheaper sets of used stuff and am kinda pissed over this now because I was expecting a new set. |

| Re: 7.5 4.11 gears As I stated in a PM last night the gears are NEW!! They will scuff off the factory finish while setting pinion depth and gear mesh. I will refund the sale price but not shipping as the gears ARE as advertised. Regardless of new or used I would never install gears without checking pinion depth first, especially if they came with the pinion shim and bearing already installed. That's why I told you I didn't know the shim thickness.
I feel bad that you think they are used and am not out to swindle anyone especially for a measly $70.
Please let me know what you want to do. |

Harder to see in the pics over sitting here looking at them but can see it if you click on it and bring it up big. It is plain as day that they have been run. Now if I was buying used this wouldnt be a problem as they look like a good pattern was run on them but I paid for a new set from you and not used. I just sold a set of richmond gears for a nine inch that I ran a few passes on then decided I needed more gear and sold them for 60 bucks and it was a 180 set new. Take a look. |

I am not in the wrong here and would never put in a set without setting them up either. You told me that you bought the rear end that way and didnt want to run this gear. Now saying you set them up and know they are new????? What is the story on them? I am not loosing a penny on this deal as I have been out of work and cant afford to give up anything and why I went for this deal to begin with. It was a good deal for a new set of gears. But being used no longer a good deal. I need some money refunded for them being used and will keep them and take a chance on them making noise with a pattern burned in to the steel already. Mine are terrible in the car now and about to blow so will keep and use them but not paying the full price for a used set you sold to me as new. |

| Re: 7.5 4.11 gears If you read back you'll see I never said I set them up. But that doesn't really matter. Just send them back and I'll refund what you paid. As for used price check e-bay for used 4:11s and see what they're going for.
I'm not going to get bent over a few bucks and I understand your situation.
I'm willing to make it right for you.
Let me know.

I will see what they are going for used if any are out there. If I had to guess 40 to 50 but will look. I thought you said you would never install a set of gears without setting them up meaning you set these up. Sure it is a mistake on your part as they are covered with paint and maybe you were told they were not run. They havent been run much but have been run enough to start a wear pattern in the metal. I am a master mechanic and do this for a living when working. Job market is terrible here in jax fl. I will see what I can come up with inless 40 is fine for you + the shipping cost so make it 50 on them or wait to see what I find on it. |

Most used gears start at 10 bucks and some sold at that and some at 80 depending on rearend. Just send me back 30 bucks and I will settle the paypal thing as soon as payment gets to me. |

and well worth the $80. if you want new go buy new for more than double that price....
again, i am not tryin to be a **** here, but it looks like your trying to screw HIM over and get a nice set of gears for half what he was asking!
place yourself in his shoes, i dont blame him for not wanting to give you half your money AND you keep the gears. if i were the seller i would want the gears back and id refund the money. you go find another set of gears.... |

| Re: 7.5 4.11 gears Joe,
Just wanted to keep all the conversations out in the open so I'm attaching what you PMed me regarding the gears along with my response.
Joe's PM; I am not loosing a penny on this deal since I am not in the wrong and the gears are used. I do this for a living and know a used gear when I see it. They are hard coated and it is worn off in the pattern area. It takes torque and pressure to do this. If I have to I will push the paypal to the full deal where I take the gears to a shop and get a paper saying they are used then will get it all back that way and you get a strike on your account. I had to do it on a distributor once and will do it agin if I have to. I am trying to be fair by saying 50 bucks for the used gears. I had a chance to get two other used sets for the same and less but didnt want a used set to deal with getting noise again. These were set up right but you have to get it on the money for your housing and the original pattern to get no noise with them. I am out of time on mine as they will pop at anytime and just need to get this done but I paid for a new set and they are used and want the used price. I dont want to excellate the case and hurt your paypal account as I feel you didnt do it on purpose and bought them this way but if you dont give me a partial refund I will do it so I get all my money back with shipping and I will with a receipt from any shop saying they are used and I will get that no problem. Just refund 30 and I will drop it and call the case closed or refund every penny I have to spend to get them back to you + what I spent so far. With no job every thing counts for me and cant afford to give up anything especially since I have done nothing wrong to deserve all this headache.
My PM reply;
Joe,
I do not intend to discount the gears. Just as you are allowed to have an "independent" shop state they are used, Paypal must and will allow me to have the same done here before they settle your claim. It's called "discovery" and each side is allowed to see everything each other has in evidence. Either way I'm going to get the gears back.
It would be different is you were unhappy because the gears were defective but you as well as everyone who has seen the pictures agrees they are in very good to excellent condition. If you insist the gears are used that's fine. I'm really quite done with all of this over 1. a new gear set that you couldn't touch for under $200 from GM, or 2. a used gear set that you couldn't touch on e-bay for under $75 (see my examples on the forum) Not to mention this post from this site: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/en...gears-7-a.html (3.23 GEARS FOR 7.5" 10 BOLT) $50 for 45,000 mile 3.23s and you want to pay $50 for ???/no mile 4.10s? I'm confused.
Don't try to hold me hostage by threatening me with a Paypal dispute. Do what you have to do. I have offered your money back on several occasions and you only seem interested in getting the gears at a discounted price. Obviously you think they are good enough for your car but only at a price you want to pay.
So with that I repeat one last time, send em back or do your Paypal thing. I just want you to be happy.
Thanks again,
John

to me 9a complete outsider and out of the circle, it looks as if you hit the nail on the head. this guy wants the gears and its obvious. but he's broke and wants $30 bucks.
even used, $80 is a great deal, and to me they look installed, and near new if anything else.
i feel bad for people like you, just tryin to sell an honest part for an honest price and you end up gettin hosed by someone who is not willing to be fair.
i would demand the gears back and a refund of what you were paid. nothing else. i wouldnt want this guy to even have the gears.
I truely hope this gets resolved in a fair manner. its sad to see stuff like this happen.
Good luck dealing with this guys.
(sorry for gettin my nose in this, it just seems wrong what he's tryin to do) |
