Speed Pro Forged Pistons and ZZ4 rods

These are Speed Pro Forged pistons, part#L2256F30 they are flat top with 4 valve reliefs and are .030 over. These are on ZZ4 rods (powder metal). These were pulled from my 91 Z28 with approx. 8K miles. I pulled the motor to fix a pesky oil pan leak and now I got the bug to change my setup. When I pulled these out I noticed some scoring on the top land of the pistons (see pics) I took these to a local engine builder to see why this happened and he told me it was from an overly rich condition that washed the oil down. He told me that the pistons are definately reusable and not to worry. He reccomended I lightly sand the scoring and I would be fine. He had actually seen this before. I had all intentions of using them again but with my new setup I would be exceeding the limits of these rods. I need to buy H-beam rods and of course they are all floating piston pins which these pistons are not. So now I also need to get new pistons. This is a great deal for someone building a 500hp engine. You will not be disappointed. I'm looking to get $225 for them. If you are in the Cleveland area you are more then welcome to swing by and look at them.

Re: Speed Pro Forged Pistons and ZZ4 rods

These are back up for grabs. 5.0slayer is contemplating another setup. He took a piston to his engine builder and they confirmed that these are good to run. I think the lighting in the pic actually makes the damage look worse then it is.

Re: Speed Pro Forged Pistons and ZZ4 rods

Can you post a pic of the damaged piston looking down the side from teh top so it is easier to see how deep it really is? How many of the pistons were damaged?

Mike

Re: Speed Pro Forged Pistons and ZZ4 rods

I will try to take a pic tomorrow, but I doubt if you would be able to see it. I didn't when they were installed. I didn't see the damage until I pulled them out. Every piston shows some sign, but again its really not too bad. If my engine guy told me they were junk I would have just tossed them, but he assured me they were fine.

If you are serious I can even just charge you for one and ship it to you that way you have it and can take it to an engine builder. If you don't like it you can ship it back I will return your money and we could just split the shipping on it.
