Vortec Heads drilled for 87-92 intake

SOLD SOLD SOLD!!!!

I have a set of Pro Topline Vortec Heads with only a couple thousand miles on them. Stainless valves and hardened retainers, springs good to .500. They were drilled and used with a modified 87-92 TPI intake (taller ports). Performed real nice. Need gone.

I am extremely interested. Would they fit the Edelbrock intake? You said a taller port was used. Also shipping to 93955?

hey im really interested in the heads and i have a few questions. would these heads work on a 1 piece rear main seal block? i dont know what year the block is. would it work with carb manifolds. what cc combustion chamber? what cc intake? what size valves? anything else wrong with the heads.
they would be going on a 383.

Re: Vortec Heads drilled for 87-92 intake

The Edelbrock Vortec TPI Intake is made for Vortec Heads and would fit without any modifications. I took an 87-92 intake and welded and modified the ports so that they were taller, basically the Vortec port is narrow and tall where the older common style heads are wider and shorter. When a normal intake is layed over the heads the intake ports are too tall and there wouldn't have been enough gasket sealing surface. If you don't have access to a machine shop and a tig just use the edelbrock aftermarket intake made for these, either bolt pattern can be used. These heads will fit any small block chevy, both 2 pc and 1 pc rear main seal blocks except for the 90's LT1's. They would fit any carb manifold but again it would have to be a Vortec specific bolt pattern intake or an 87-92 Q-Jet intake with modified ports. They have 64cc Fast Burn chambers and 170cc intake ports with 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust stainless valves. I flowed these heads back when I was in college and they flow 230 cfm at .500 lift@ 28 in. There is nothing wrong other then it needing valve seals, very cheap and very easy to install. I used these heads back before the Edelbrock Vortec TPI intake was available! These heads with a decent dual pattern cam will really help wake up your L98!

Do you know anyone that wants to get rid of a Edelbrock TPI Base? I have the 87 - 95 version if they will trade.

You are probably going to have a hard time finding one of those and even if you do it won't be cheap. Be cheaper to pay an engine machine shop to modify the one you already have.

Why would they need valve seals after a couple thousand miles?

Re: Vortec Heads drilled for 87-92 intake

When I removed them from the engine I disassembled them for inspection and to flow bench them and found the seals to be the o-ring kind and decided to throw them away. I was going to install the good positive style seals and never got around to it.

Re: Vortec Heads drilled for 87-92 intake

Just installed new seals, positive viton style on intakes and umbrellas on exhausts. Noticed that the valves are the knecked style too, guides have absolutely no play whatsoever and have bronze inserts in them.
