pistons do have a small dome, should be about 10to1 compression

ya they wouldn't mind if they had money to blow, but for 2300.00 you could put a 350 at over 400HP without the hassel of swapping motors. what year is the motor?

well I guess you could but you would not even come close to the torque of a big block, with less money than 2300.00/ and its no more difficult to install a big block in a thirdgen than a small block if you know witch parts to use, all the info to do it is here on the site/but its your money spend it how you want but dont hate on the guys that want a big block thirdgen!!!!!!

Re: LOOK!!!! 454 BBC "All forged internals" Good Price!!

I'm not hating on BBC's, you can definatly put out a **** ton more power with the 454 than you can any SBC. if you had the money.

these are on a 350 chevy shortblock out of hot rod magazine. i'll give you stock vortec heads and afr 195 heads. these are with different camshafts that would put you at these numbers. these have been tested.
1495.00 for the 195 AFR heads
450+ for the camshaft
These also had headers on them and im sure a performer intake manifold. but in the end you get around 2300-2400$$$

xe268h-10 1500-5500 rpm: 409 tq @4000, 372 hp @5400. afr heads: 420 tq @ 4200, 418 hp @ 5800 rpm.

magnum 280h-10 2200-6200 rpm:403 tq @ 4300, 378 hp @ 5700. afr heads, 422 tq @ 4300, 426 hp @ 6100.

xe274h-10 1800-6000 rpm: 414 tq @4100, 385 hp @ 5600. afr heads: ... didn't give exact #'s. all they said was "afr's head are worth about 47 hp and 12 torque" give or take some

magnum 292h-10: 407 tq@ 4300 rpm, 400 hp @ 6000. afr heads: 415 tq @ 4700, 450@ 6400

283thr-107:418 tq @ 4200, 396 hp @5900. afr heads: 436 tq @ 4300, 453 hp @ 6200

with the price of fuel now a days, I am building small blocks 8-1. but a 454 will get moving faster!! The new mark, with todays technology for gen 1 small blocks is 500 fwhp.

sorry i missed the part where you added up the cost of a short block, i pretty sure thats not a stock short block, how about adding $500 for pistons, $400 for block work, good bolts hell maybe even rods and crank

stock internals, no bore, no stroke. with that much power i'm sure they added new fuel rails and oil pump etc etc. its advised to redo your block, but when most people think about that, they figure if they are doing that they might as well bore 4.030" over and give it a 3.750" stroke for a 383.

it was stock, you don't have to redo them, if you do its just to make sure they are touch enough to handle the power. wtf? you don't need pistons unless you bore/stroke it or want a different compression ratio.

This particlular article was done on a junk yard engine, not even freshened up, just replacing top end, FYI hence the name "junk yard gen 1 jewel" than also the did the same to a truck junk yard 5.3 and got 650hp

where did you come up with a 8.5:1 CR? I think in the article it said it was a 10:1 CR. you better get your stories straight otherwise your going to make a fool of yourself.

Re: LOOK!!!! 454 BBC "All forged internals" Good Price!!

those articles in those mags can be very misleading, You have to remember they get kick backs of the advertising they do, and you really think any of the manufactures that are giving them money, that the mag is going to give them a bad review. Im not saying it cant be done, but what I am saying is I just dont see it happening for 2300.00. also in some of the car mags on the last page or so on the parts brake down, it will tell everything that went into the engine and 9out of 10 times its not what they started the article off with! just my two cents. But any-way this thread was trying to get this engine sold not debate witch is a better build!
thanks
