I don't see any issue with the fact that the crank is "better" than the rest of the rotating assembly.
It could be as simple as the original builder wanted that crank and planned on better rods and pistons down the road. Maybe he got a really good deal on it from someone but didn't have the funds to go with better rods and pistons. Maybe he had a crank issue before in his life so he wanted to feel secure that his crank was not the weak link...
Who knows?
Personally I still consider this engine as an option but for the fact that I have a transmission to pay for in my superduty (ouch!), I just had to replace my new wheels(pine tree fell across the road and I hit it at night in the rain), I am buying a house, and I am buying a new Heat Pump for said house out of pocket since it just quit...
Maybe I can work out a deal with you if you still have it when I get back ahead of the curve or maybe you'd want to work out a trade on one of my many vehicles I need to get rid of! As it stands I will just keep monitoring this thread and see how the money thing goes!

I already have 7 cars, my fiancee would kill me if another one showed up.
Once you get back on your feet after your repairs, let me know..

Same here... Only one actual car though. Three trucks, three SUV's, one street bike, one dirt bike, four ATV's, one truck chassis, various parts, and my mini rail buggy was stolen last year...
You can check out a few of them at my fquick garage link in sig...
edit... oops! make that two cars! I forgot about my 66 GranSport!

Yes it is. You are more than welcome to stop by and take a look if you like. Pm me for my address/phone number if you want to stop by or have any questions.
Um, Angel told me that you had a buyer for the engine, PM me and tell me what happened. I'd be interested why he would say the engine was sold and then you say it isn't, what is going on? I might be able to help you sell it but it is quiet a drive to get there.
hey feel free to join my site and post it on there too.
I have a classified section located at the bottom. Your more than welcome to place it there
with any photos. www.68camaroproject.com
There are a few gear heads that might be interested in it is what I am thinking. Won't hurt to try.
Let me know if you sign up that way I can validate your username and let you though
(keeps spammers off the site that way)

Do we know the cam specs? Do you still have receipts from when the engine was built? I'd dig through all the posts but there is pages of bumps and I figured that you could answer these questions.
Also, consider your asking price. I know you don't want to let it go for nothing, but are you asking too much? Pink rods are cheap, so is a 509 casting block. Cola crank can be had for less than $600. TRW pistons are ok, but they aren't exactly J&E's, SRP's, or Probes. I'm not trying to be an A-Hole, I just don't think you should reconsider you asking price. The heads, I probably wouldn't budge much, if at all.

Yes the cam specs are posted along with every part number. I still have the reciept form when it was built...
With my asking price, your basically getting the motor for free. The heads are still new. The heads arent cheap at $2,500.
I got that, but what I'm trying to say is, if you split the bottom end from the heads, the bottom end wouldn't be worth the asking price. Also AFR's are less than what you paid for your heads. It's a sign of the times, as stuff gets outdated, it becomes cheaper. I would rethink the price, or you might have it another year and a half.
I think $1,500 for the shortblock is more than reasonable considering all the machine work, bearings rings, etc is already done. Try and start from scratch with just a bare 400 block that needs machine work and the bottom end and you will surpass $1,500 real fast.
Plus the heads are fully worked, there not out of the box. They work very well with the combination of the motor itself.
Anyway bump for someone who is interested. Please No bullshitters. if you dont have the money on hand dont ask.
WOW i would love to have those heads. BUt shipping alone is beyond my price range

Right, All I have are the set of complete heads ready to bolt on. I hear you, I spent $5,500 or so on the entire 406 setup.

I have some TRW reverse domes right now in my 412/413. They are larger bore than what I ran in the 358, yet weigh about the same (596 grams) as the more expensive SRP reverse domes I ran in the 358. The finish on the TRW is not as pretty, but my motor doesn't care.
If they are the same shape, same weight, and made of the same low expansion alloy why pay more for a name?
