Another great option to explore is converting the 8.8 Ford. It's just as strong as the Chevy 12 bolt and they are so plentiful and came in several different widths with disc brakes.
well, where I live 12 bolts are pretty common, Most junkyards have them. However the 8.5 ten bolt is kinda rare around here, had to drive 3 hours away just to pick one up, it that gives you any ideas? anybody know how much a 9 bolt borgwarner is worth? got one laying in the shop with a bent axle? just wondering.
I'm not sure how much they are worth, but I know parts are very expensive. Mine needs a new posi and its quite expensive. www.9bolt.com has most all the parts to build them.

I am interested as well.. However just like everyone else I would like to see the finished project first. Also is shipping an option or is this pick up only?
I'm also intersted, would prefer the 8.5 I think (my GN's is going strong), PM with what a price would be if I brought a rear to you. I'm near chicago, what part of IL are you in?
Im about 5 hours south of chicago, not sure if you want to drive that far?lol, and yes shipping is an option, Im still researching to see who will be the cheapest carrier, I apologize for not having pictures yet, I will post some tomorrow, the guy Ive been getting my steel from is being super slow with my order, but should have pictures up tomorrow. thanks.
Awesome, i live in NY. What would a 12 bolt or 8.5 housing cost bare ready to build??How about the same rears built ready to go in?? This is going to be great!!!!
Yes, I to could be interested and would like to see pics, and you can make them the same length as the stock 9-bolts.....I know I'm not gonna want to know what the shipping charge to Florida is going to be.....
well, like I said before, Shipping seems to be cheaper with the longer distance for some reason? But these rears will be like putting in a 4th gen rear, a little bit wider, may have to get some wheels with a little more backspacing, I know a bare housing is gonna cost about $250, for the 12 bolt, $200 for the 10 bolt. I am also thinking about setting up a separate account and charging a $100 deposit, which is refundable if you change your mind, and allow up to 2 weeks for build time. This will also be a first come first serve type of deal, Let me know if this would be cool with you guys? not trying to screw anybody over or anything, and I will get pics up asap. Thanks guys

Just from a business standpoint to protect yourself, I don't think it would be out of line to make that $100 deposit NON-REFUNDABLE. You can't be purchasing material for a job that has no guarantees that you will have that work. As customers, that $100 is a guarantee that we are next in line and we won't get pushed down the "first come, first serve" for any reason.

what metals are you needing??? are you just using like steel stock, and cutting everything you need?? What axles are you using that are the correct width??
One thing im really curios about... How did you get around that pesky torque arm mount. I know you said you fabbed up something - and without the desire to nag you - could you post a pic? Because ill be damned welding to cast iron is a royal pain... If that's how you pulled it off - sir i commend you.
Well, if these are not as good as a moser, why buy them? If he is taking an old 12 bolt and adding gears, the old 12 bolts are just as bad as our third gen stockers. Even 4th gen stock gears are horrible. 12 bolt doesnt mean anything.
hate to contradict you BrOdBaNd, but you go ahead and replace a 12 bolt rear end from whichever car donated it with a f-body 7.5 rear. See what happens. As far as the actual necessity for a Ford 9 inch... to each his own. If you want a rear you cant shake a stick at and you don't have the desire to ever play with it again, stuff it under there. A 12 bolt or a Ford 8.8 is your next bet bet; less drivetrain HP lost, more accesible, amd way better than a 10 bolt. If you plan on pumping any serious power through a 10 bolt, prepare spares. I have 2 blown rears in a corner of the garage somewhere. Scrap metal... nothing more. However - i didnt mean to get off topic. Hopefully the gentelman is only busy, and will shed some light on the situation soon. This would be a great opportnity so add some much needed strength to many cars.

your joking right? ever here of the LS6 454? 450hp; 500lb/f torque. you get a housing with all the brackets and t/a mount for $500. beyond that i dont know for sure. ....... 12bolts take 600hp+ with slicks in a4500lb car.
it is a way stronger rear end. The ring and pinion gears have more surface are to mesh. More meshing area means a better connection between two moving parts. Better connection = better power + energy transfer.
Sum it all up, and you get a pretty stiff rear end. Except for one thing so far... the torque arm provision - which we know nothing about.
Well until he shows pics and explains how well there made, Im not believing anything
Yup....no point in getting all excited if the person can't provide detail pics of his work..just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's a good deal.

i have tax return money burning a hole in my wallet! if this dosen't happen soon i am going to wind up spending it on bills; not on hot rod . and that would suck.
I would like to give him the benefit of doubt. A 12 bolt for that cost would be great. However - what will make it or break it for me is the torque arm mount. I am dying to see that.
