Greg, I have a 92 rs that had a v6 when built, I installed a 355 with an msd 6al box pro billet dist, I use the msd box for tach reading, my tach will go from 500 at idle to max and stay there, if I change from the v6 tach to the v8 tach will this correct my issue. Greg, I have a 92 rs that had a v6 when built, I installed a 355 with an msd 6al box pro billet dist, I use the msd box for tach reading, my tach will go from 500 at idle to max and stay there, if I change from the v6 tach to the v8 tach will this correct my issue. I sell refurbished tachs/chips for 84-92 camaros that have been correctly repaired to fix the common problems of reading high/low or not at all. I replaced the capacitors if bad, the carbon resistors, and repaired the resistor array. I then calibrated the tachs using a square wave signal generator. If you want, I can put a 12 turn potentiometer in place of the (4-10) resistor to allow you to fine tune the tach if needed.
90-92 (V8 & V6) tach chips are $35 shipped
84-89 tachometers are $45 shipped
I will purchase your broken 82-89 tachometer with PCB (printed circuit board) or 90-92 chip for $10. It's not hard to disassemble the cluster. If you need disassembly instructions or have any questions, please give me a call.

I have a 92 305 tbi car, the tach is not working also the temp gauge is not working can you test and or repair the temp gauge?

The tachs will work fine, but the oil gauge won't read accuratly. you will need the oil pressure sender on the engine that matches the 80psi oil gauge. But it will work, I have built a cluster doing that same thing. You can acctually swap out oil gauges.

the sender on the back of the engine by the firewall?sounds easy enough.what tach is that with redline at 5k and 80 psi opg?i guess swapping gauge would be about as easy as changing the sender?

Changing the sender isn't that diffucult. I think some tbi cars came with a 5k redline and an 80 psi oil gauge. yeah, the gauge isn't too hard to get out if you have a little time and patience.

The tachometer will read higher than actual engine RPM, and the oil pressure gauge needle will still be in the same location on the dial but because of that it's displaying a different value.

I apologize. I should have been more specific. If you put a V6 tach into a V8, it will read higher, unless you modify it. However, I have noticed that the V6 and V8 tachs have the numbers and lines in the same place on both.

Just look under the search option for "cluster removal" and you should get a good idea of what to remove. The chip is on the bottom right of the cluster and is a simple plug and play part. I have only owned earlier models, so i'm not exactly sure of what to take apart on the 92 model year cars.

That sounds like a common tach problem I deal with all the time. I won't know for sure until I test the tach chip, but I believe I can fix that.
