WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

My parents keep bugging me about what I want for christmas, so here it is. Sub-Frame connectors...Only I prefer the DD design over all others, but they are a bit hard to find these days.

So, if anyone out there has a set that is looking to find a new home underneath an 85 Z28 and you have a reasonable price (My Christmas budget is extremely limited this year), reply or send me a PM and let's talk.

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

I was under the assumption that they are discontinued. Since they are weld-in style, it might be tough to find a set.

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

Unfortunately, both of those assumptions are correct. I was just hoping there was someone who had a set laying around for a rainy day or a set that had been cut off a car in a re-usable manner.

What exactly was the story anyway behind why Kenny Brown ceased manufacturing alot of his products? It looks like he only makes stuff for certain Mustangs now...

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

Yeah... I noticed that too. I don't know the reason but it seems to be a bad business decision as he had the 3rd gen. market practically cornered when he decided to let it go and pursue the 4th gen customer. That dried up and now, I guess, the Mustang customer is the only growing population with F cars dead. With GM's demise very close at hand, I wonder if we'll ever see another F-car ever.

Kenny Brown from what I understand has had serious health problems. He has closed up his shop and only making limited things.I think the stuff that is still for sale is stuff that wasnt sold out.I dont know this for sure tho.

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

Wow, best of luck to him. I can't speak from experience but it looks like he made some real quality products.

If I can't find a set of DD's (No you perverts, I already have some of those at home), I think I'll just go for the UMI SFC's as I like that design best besides the Kenny Browns. That is unless someone has a better suggestion.

I'm still all ears if someone has a set laying around or a set that was cut off a car in a re-usable fashion.

Well, the locations of where the bends are at, would be hard to get precise measurements at......And those 2 big flat tranny mounts aren't flat between the 2 bars, but angled somewhat. Nor mounted at the same height on each bar. Low on one, halfway up on the other.

1"x 1" sq. tubing, .125 wall

.125 thick Rear Body plate

.180 thick on the other plates

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

I'm not too worried about the tranny mounts, just some measurements on the lengths of the square sections would be great. I will be building some SFCs as soon as I get my car on my lift. SFCs and a stainless exhaust are my 1st things to do.

For ONE SFC, 2 bars....54" & 46.5".

You'll notice the lack of the "step-up" on the passenger side, like most built. It doesn't hug the floor profile, but rather is flat not bent & stays with the bottom of the stock subframe.

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

I think I'll just build mine from scratch then, under the car...see how it turns out. Will be doing 2 sets, for a 87 iroc and a 91 gta. 1x1 seems a little small. I'm sure I can fit some bigger sections in there. Will probably triagulate the whole thing too to get it as stiff as possible.

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

Yes, bigger would fit, but the KBDDs compromise zero ground clearance. and the .125 wall makes for a good thick, strong tubing.

I think most SFCs you buy are made with .080 or .090 wall.

Re: WTB: Kenny Brown Double Diamond SFC's

What's the fun in buying I will probably use rect. tubing so the ground clearance isn't compromised too much.
