So my EGR solenoid has just failed and I come to find out that they are no longer available. Of course I am extremely pissed. I hope someone out there has one and can help me out. I just missed the biggest car show in the country (Woodward Dream Cruise) because of the stupidity of whoever decided to stop making this part!.
If you are not sure if you have the right one, attached is what it looks like.

Crap mine is bad also. And yes they stop making this item. Called Pepboys, Autozone, and Napa. No one carries it anymore. I searched the Oreilly website and found the part number EGR216. Called them up and same problem, they couldn't even order them. They just stop making them. This part is very crusial to the vacuum system and really makes a difference on the ildling of the vehicle. If anyone else out there has one that still works. Please let me know!

Hey just go to 1-800-smog-help and they rebuild them, you must send in your old one or it is a 100 dollar core charge,if they can not get any then you will be exempt from smog but they still are doing them as all the firebirds, camaros and corvettes use these at least in third gen years. IROCKMAN
Re: NEEDED: 87-92 EGR Vacuum Solenoid Part # 1997171
Thanks a lot Iroc Man. I did some research and started to do some research on my own. All EGR solenoid for this model 1997171 has been discontinued from GM and aftermarket companies. But GM builted a few cars during this generation with 5.7 TPI L98 engines. The Camaro, Corvette, Firebird, and Buicks. The only one I could find close to a match on the electric housing was the Corvette so far. I went ahead and ordered on Ebay from Corvette Central #: 304115. The only thing different is that the wire harness is backwards but should plug in. Also the brackets will neet modifying for mounting. If this works, I will also send my unit into 1 800 smog help. To get my original rebuilted. This way I can still drive my car while the original gets worked on. I will be posting later if this Solenoid actually works.
Re: NEEDED: 87-92 EGR Vacuum Solenoid Part # 1997171
Okay this Corvette solenoid really works. I didn't have to hack the wires or pigtail to put this guy on. The only difference is the harness is in the opposite direction. Makes no difference the unit really works well. Remade a mounting bracket and that's it. Found a light aluminum bracket that was easily remodified at any hardware store. Hope this helps the lost and confused out there. 86-90 Corvettes EGR, highly recommended!
