Removal / Installation Labor Charges?

Well I need a crate motor or a rebuild, Im thinking of a rebuild and making it a 355 or 383. that will cost anywhere from $1500-$2300.

Me and friends might do the removal and installation, if not, how much should I look forward to for just installing a rebuilt engine. same engine that came out of the car.

I know me and friends could handle removal.

Removing the engine is fairly straight foreward. I don't see why the average car nut wouldn't be able to do it. Make sure you label everything and take your time. Have the machine shop take care of the rest and all you will have to do is install it. What do you plan to do about tuning?

If the shop would follow the "book" on how many hours it would take, I would say anywhere from 4-8, then multiply that by the shop rate. Here the dealers charge $65/hour, all the other reputable shops go for about $35-45/hour. As a comparison, to remove an engine from a 93 Lumina, the "book" lists 11 hrs.
