Merlin BBC oval ports..

Im looking for a used pair($600 with valves and springs)but I need to know if its the 265cfm or the 290 cfm port volume version..Is this a good deal? And what kind of camshaft would you recommend for a cam..Its a steel shimmed gasket 8.5 compression ratio 454 with cast pistons

Flow numbers I don't have but the intake runner volume of the oval ports are 269cc but there's lots of metal in the heads to open them up a lot more. They can be ported enough to outflow factory 990 rectangular port castings.

Cam choice is up to you but the springs are set up for a maximum of .570" lift. That's just above mild for a BBC. Mine have been redone for a max of .650" lift. New springs, locks, retainers. Machined down the valve guide and positive lock seals.

That compression is very low. A comp cams Xtreme Energy XE274H-10 would probably work well.
