Block #

Tell you what I did... Call up a local Chevy dealership, get the parts dept., and give them the block # and ask them to run it... they should be able to... that's what they did for me, told me what it was, what year it was, and even how much HP it produced from the factory. Hope this helps.

Go to www.mortec.com. But this will only tell you the size and not much else.

Not out of a Camaro, that's for sure. Camaros were assmembled in a plant with code L (Van Nuys, CA), that motor came from a car built in plant F, wherever that is, and whatever kind of cars they built there.

Beyond that, I nave no clue about the motor, other than that www.mortec.com says it's a 80-85 305 block.

2.56 gears to my knowledge were never offered in a Camaro. They did however come in some A & G cars (Cutlass, Monte Carlo, etc.) See if it has the torque arm mounts on it, which will be a huge boss that would accomodate 2 vertical 7" long bolts through it, next to the pinion yoke. If it doesn't have that, it isn't a F car rear.
