Glad to hear it.
Someday I'll be where you are (305 out/350 in) and I can't wait.
The best part is when someone asks
"Who did the engine?" you get to say "ME!"
"Who did the exhaust?" ----- "ME!"
And on, and on.
I do have a question though about your engine specs.
NOW- 355 TPI
11:1 compression
.172 exh, .202 int
forged rods, crank, pistons
BAD CAM- .472 int, .481 exh
titanium valve springs
dynomax shorty headers
of course it has all the chrome and shiny goodies (valve covers, pullys, polised TPI setup)
.172 exh, .202 int ----- Is that the valve size?
And "BAD CAM"..... is that a manufacture?
Just remember to keep the tickets in the cop's pocket, not yours.

You cant load images from you harddrive!! LOL
Try loading the images to this site and then linking them to here
www.imagestation.com
and i think your valves should be 2.02 and 1.72

It seems a lot of you are getting rid of your 305's. Not that I have a problem with this, I plan on getting rid of mine for a 350 as well.
I am just curious, where do all of these 305's go?

No seriously.
You just sell them to a junkyard for a few bucks?
My friend took a 305 out of his Chevy K5 (underpowered, dont ask) and sold it to a guy who was hot rodding a boat.

Hey, I just swaped my 305 out for a 350 also. It is pretty nice. I can also say I built my motor, my exhuast, swapped in the rear upgraded the breaks and the list goes on. Mine was done because my 305 took a crap. Looking back on it I didnt see any physical damage. I think that the timing chain may have jumped a tooth or something, but it was for the better. Unfortunately I also am in the process of swapping in an electric speedo so I cant drive it until I get it working so the computer will lock up. I am hoping this weekend. I have however taken it out for short trips and can tell you that the 305 wouldent burn through first and into second like this.
What kind of heads did you use? Do you know the casting number? Also on the cam do you have the duration numbers?
Ben

actually theyre 305 heads that have been extensively worked and ported. reason being:
305 heads with a little work can flow just as good as nice 350 heads, and they have much smaller chambers.
smaller chambers=higher compression
higher compression=more ponies at the wheels
but guess what i just found out about the "good deal" on my 29.99 cam.....i called the company that made it just to be sure what i had and heres what i found out......
LIFT
int-.390
exh-.410
i knew it was too good to be true!!!!
now i get to have fun changing a cam while its in the car.
the thing that makes me happy is even with a basically stock cam my car still feels like an alcohol dragster!!!
ok now that ive accepted reality and have to change a cam, what do you guys reccomend? ive heard good things about zz3s and zz4s. what about lunatis? suggestions?

Hey, I have 305 heads also. They have also been fully ported. You dont happen to know what the compression would be with stock pistons and the small chambers do you? I found a stock replacement piston on a site that had the same valve reliefs as the ones I have and was used during the same years and it said that I should have about 10.6 to one compression, but I wasnt sure how accurate that is. I have the xe268 cam and like it, but I have not been full throttle past second gear and havent taken it past 5000 rpm yet. This cam is supposed to peak around 5800, and is about 100 bucks from summit I believe. I would have taken it up to 6000 in first, but my shifter cable is messed up and I cant put it in anything manually lower than second gear. I really do like having the 350 after running the 305. lol

hey one of my custom dream cars is a stock 96 civic with a either a 427 sbc or a 502 bbc with a th400 tranny and 9in rear end. of chorse the civic will be tubbed out with big meat in the back and it will be the civic with the trunk so u can hide the battery, full cell, and the big tubs
maybe a 305 in a civic or a milddly modded 305 in a civic will still give it a nice get up and go.

LOL thanx but i know about the chevettes. one guy around here built his chevette around the bbc he has in it. the thing hangs the front wheels nicely. he did it once leaving the car show, i almost creamed myself.
but also how many civics do u see runing around with sbc of bbc in them and look stock excupt the big *** slicks in the rear and the nice sounding of open headers

actually somebody beat both of you to it. his name was carol shelby and his "big engine, little body" idea was the Cobra. too bad he went with ford instead of chevy. oh well. its still an awesome car. 500+hp on a 1500lb body. i imagine that would embarass my 350 any day. lol
that still would be funny though, a 502 in a civic. people would hear the noise and be looking around for the chevelle.
not to mention it would carry the front wheels past the finish line.

A lot of guys use 305's for boat motors, there's a class where the limit on engine size is like 306ci or something around there. They usually end up blowing up the engines, so a 305 is a cheap solution to their problem.

there are a few dirt tracks around here that have started a 305 sprint class. supposedly it is a sort of stepping stone before the 358 cars. i think it's more like dirt burners have a lot of $$ to waste, and they get bored easily...
Anyway, I know a few people who ditched their old 305's to this cause.

titanium valve springs
There are VERY few places that make titanium valve springs, and they are fittingly expensive so I really doubt you have a set.
Also your valve head diameters are off by a decimal place.

I've had a 1987 camaro for a little under a year now, and up until recently I haven't been really that much into cars.. but lately for some reason I've been reading like hell trying to satisfy my fetish for learning about engines. I'm saving up for a 305 to 350 swap right now. I know I'll need new headers cause they don't fit right? Any other tips? (Oh yeah, is the 1987 model a Berlinetta or what? I've been trying to figure that out for the longest..)

Hi there!!! I had a technical question for you if you could help me out. I am doing a similar swap as you have completed. I have a 1991 Camaro that had a 305 TBI engine with the WC T-5 transmission. The question I have is in regards to the clutch fork necessary to perform the swap. I purchased a LT1 flywheel and SPEC stage 1 clutch for the T-5 LT1 set-up. The problem at the moment is that the stock clutch fork I have is not wide enough to go on the throwout bearing and the one they gave me from the dealer is not long enough. Which clutch and clutch fork set-up did you use in your swap? Thanks!!!
