I am debating on purchasing a 350 motor for one of my Pace Cars. It is originally out of a 87 Iroc and was a TPI motor (although I am keeping the carburetor on my car). The car it was originally in had a electric fuel pump and mine has a mechanical fuel pump. I am trying to keep it as close to stock looking as possible and was wondering if I could remove the block off plate and bolt a mechanical fuel pump to this engine??

The block casting number is: 14093638

you can bolt a fuel pump up to it, but I think you have to change your camshaft. After 1987, I believe the smallblock camshafts no longer had the lobe to drive the mechanical fuel pump. You will need a fuel pump rod as well.

I dunno if the cam has provisions for it, but make sure the block does first. Pull off the block-off plate and check to see if there's a hole for the fuel pump pushrod. I know some later blocks don't have it, but I don't know which ones.
