Car: 1992 Camaro RS Engine: TBI L03 Transmission: 700R4 | Just to reiterate a point made earlier here: these scam artists typically are hacking into other people's accounts and using them to sell fake merchandise. I doubt there is anyone in Michigan at fault, aside from not knowing how to use the Internet safely and getting their account stolen.

....... | Just a minor point guys - the recipient bank account he lists is in Prague, CZ. That is the Czech Republic, most definitely not Russia. Heres a link showing the thousands of miles between them!!! http://worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/europe/cz.htm
I think the moral of the story is that if it looks too good to be true then it usually is. And that we should all exercise caution when parting with cash for goods we are not taking posession of directly. |

Car: 86 Camaro Z28 Engine: 350 sbc goodwrench Transmission: T-5 in the works Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.42 open | In the past 5 years Ive been an ebay buyer
and sometime seller.
The largest purchases have been 2 cars,
89 celica gts and 86 camaro z28..
Both cars where 1500 dollars but I didnt pay
the auction until I saw the vehicles.
On both cars the seller wasnt being 100 percent honest.
Remember dont trust strangers...
I guess if someone asked me for advice on buying
expensive items off of ebay I would suggest that the seller
be located in your area so you can check it out first.
sorry to hear about that scam at least you shared it..
that takes balls.. |

Car: 92 firebird Engine: 3.1L v-6 Transmission: 4sp. automatic | Re: 02 LS1 Motor from yahoo auctions (WARNING!!! Careful on EBAY and YAHOO!!!) Quote: Originally posted by realcopoman Hey guys,
I got told you may beable to help me. I tried buying a LS1 from a 02 ss car. I was going to stuff it in place of my tiredTPI in my iroc. I found one on yahoo auctions which was 1900 with a 6 T-56 6 speed. Did anyone else here about this auction, know about who had it etc. I bought it, sent the money, and they stiffed me....They never sent the stuff, so now I'm motorless and pennyless... Does anyone out here know anything that may help me....like some names, and where there at. I know the seller was Doug Branch or maybe a Greggory Pitts and I think this guy is somewhere from the Michigan area. I have a few different names for him, and a few different addresses. There is a reward out for helping me find the parties involved.
Thanks
Chad | Friend,
Check with your bank and there should be a draft no. that can be traced. You did what is known as a "wire transfer" and is just as traceable at a bank as it is at a "western union". |

Car: 1985 Trans Am Engine: stock LG4 305 4bbl Transmission: 5 speed manual Axle/Gears: Drums and 3:23's | Whenever I read these posts, they remind me of why I try to buy my cars/parts from someone on thirdgen.org who has been around a while and is known to someone else.
So far I haven't had any problems with any transactions here, and when I need something badly and don't see it for sale here I can usually find it used at Hawk's, etc.
When I do buy from eBay, it's stuff from sellers with really high feedback numbers with like 99% positive feedback. Even then, I use my B of A Visa or Visa check card so I can dispute it if I get the shaft. If I can't pay by Visa, and I can't do the deal in person, I walk away. It's hard to do when you really want/need something and it looks like a good deal, but the discipline can really save your butt...

| The day after I saw the ebay post I linked above I went back to look at it again and the item had been removed by ebay. That really made me wonder if it was the same scam. I have a hard time spending more than I feel comfortable tossing in the trash on something I can't see in person from a person on the other side of the country. Never been burned but I have never spent more than 100 bucks either. When I bought my laptop, one just like it was on ebay for 1000 (new) buy it now, I spent the 2000 instead because it seems stinkie...no ebayers give away $1k. |

Car: 91 z-28 conv. Engine: 350 vortec tpi crate Transmission: 700r4 | man this is an interesting read even if it is old. with that being said there are a couple of things i would like to add about my ebay experience. maybe it will save someone else from being ripped off.
two cases that went bad everything else turned out ok.
first, bought a 97 TA conv with low miles back in 01. the price was great and the milage was low. numerous pics of the car and it looked legit. i bid and win the car for a very good price. i live in NC the car was in FLA and he wanted me to send the money within 7 days. nothing personal but for that kind of money i'll drive.
so make arrangament drive down. get there and call and he tells us to meet him at his car lot. we go and no one is there. we wait about an hour and a guy turns up but not the "right" guy and ,no, the car isn't there either. the "right" guy shows up about an hour later and tells me the car is at a shop and now it will be tomorrow before i can get it. sooooo, tomorrow rolls around and back to the lot about noon. again we have to wait for a couple of hours still being promised the car.
finally i tell the guy we need to see the car and he takes us to a repair place. to make the story short the freakin car didn't even have a driver's seat in it. well the drive and the hotel bill were a lot cheaper than the nearly 10grand i would have been out.
second was this year a 2 year old 42 bayliner up for auction. it was in CA but what the heck it was cheap. i didn't win the bid but got a "second chance" offer to buy it after the bidding ended. i dead beat bidder they clamimed. the price was, well, to good to be ture but, honesty, what they oringally sent me checked out so i started the process.
after i started checking with shippers they said they would ship it at no charge. since the red flag was half way up the pole this offer sent it to the top. the quote i got for shipping was about $11,000 from west to east coast and they were gonna do it for free?!??!
this prompted me to ask who they were going to ship with. they responded an air freight company out of south africa. so now i'm LMAO. i sent a few more emails to have some fun and the in my final email i asked them what kind of plane they would be using to ship a 14,000 pound boat in. they never responed and i'm still......LMAO.
be smart out there!!! |

Car: Fire Red 89 RS Engine: 2.8L :( Transmission: 700r4 auto | Sorry to here about what happend that really sucks. There are a few people finding websites you can use, they will cost some money but its like $30 not the 1900 u lost. You can try the anme you have this guy and the different adresses and see what ones match up also i would say you probly have information because you sent the money somewhere use that if its credit card info ue that named if you have a po box use that or try the local police because it is a crime with a nice amount of jail time to go with it. if you do get the guy you should get money back and if you used a credit card to buy it then report the card stolen. The people finding sites are gonna be your best bet to track him down then use the cops when you find this piece of ****. |

| Re: 02 LS1 Motor from yahoo auctions (WARNING!!! EBAY AND YAHOO AUCTION SCAMS!!!) A quick tip from someone who's read everything Frank Abagnale's written: Never buy from anyone based in Russia, China, African countries or eastern europe. it's the wild west for fraud, and alot of time it's organised by the mafia, so heading over there is a BAD idea just so you know! |
