With the HO 350 swap (which IIRC is a ZZ4) GM was claiming 13.8 in the quarter-mile.

I have to agree with you. I just checked the GM Performance parts online catalog and the time is 13.83. Now, with that said, a few upgrades (adding the Fast Burn heads takes you from 355 to 385 hp. and a HOT cam puts you up to 425-430 hp), and it is pretty easy to improve on that.

You have a couple of choices. You can order a ZZ4 short block and add those components. You can order a Fast Burn 385 and add the HOT cam.

Last, I seem to recall a 383/425. This is the 383 with the Fast Burn heads (and maybe the HOT cam, but I don't think so. )

That's amazing, considering the mods you have listed in your sig.

People have told me via email they have ran at the very best, low 13s, especially with tpi. Basically a mid 13 sec car with just the motor. I would like to know the fastburn setup? Any times out there?

I don't have any quarter-mile times for you (it's a new engine), but the ZZ383/425 (p/n 12498772) looks impressive. Here's what the GM Performance Parts Catalog say, "...425 horsepower at an incredibly low 5400 RPM and 460 (!) ft.lbs. of torque at 4500 rpm make this the ideal hot street engine."

(BTW, it comes with the Fast Burn heads and 4340 nitrided and induction hardened crank).

Compression ratio: 9.7

"... a stout .509/.528 lift steel camshaft with 222/230 duration at .050 lift. Hydraulic roller lifters and GM's time tested 1.5 to 1 roller rocker arms....

"GM's testing was completed using a GM single plane intake, p/n 12496822 and a 750 CFM Demon carburetor with mechanical secondaries. Test header specs are: 1/ 3/4" primaries, 33 inches long with a 4-inch collector.

"GM dual plane intake p/n 12366573 may be used for hood clearance on the ZZ383/425, but it results in a decrease in peak horsepower of aproximately 15-20 horsepower."

I'm surprised the catalog doesn't say anything about adding the HOT cam, but it must be worth some power.

I'm editing because I just checked the price at gmpartsdirect.com. A ZZ4 goes for about $3600, not including shipping. The ZZ383/425 is about $1000 more at almost $4600 (again, without shipping).

My stock ZZ4 with stock TPI setup (not an aftermarket manifold like you have) ran a 13.59 at 101. I have a stock 700R4 stock torque converter and 3.36 rear gears. I did this time (not adjusted) on 275-50-15 street radials.
With all the aftermarket stuff you have put on a ZZ4, *** knows what times you would turn, but it would have to be quite a bit more. A stock L98 is a stone compared to a ZZ4.

you realize the L98 and ZZ4 have the same heads right?. so just buy a ZZ4 cam for your L98 and you should make near the same power a ZZ4 would w/ TPI

The cam in that "new" motor is actually a little bigger than the Hot Cam. If you want to buy the Hot Cam kit for the Fastburn crate motor, don't buy the whole kit, just buy the cam and the roller rockers. Don't ask how i know that! Waste of money.

The heads on a ZZ4 are aluminum, so they aren't the same as an L98. As far as port sizes, etc. I'm not sure. 58cc chambers, 10 to1 compression and ZZ4 cam make a big difference. 50 lbs lighter heads are worth .05 sec quicker ET. as well.
