Alright guys, I am planning on getting myself a LT1. The thing is on ebay they have great delas for them, but most of the deals are 97. I've heard that this swap is a little different. How so. I've also called the local junkyards and they say for a '95 50k mile LT1, its gonna be $975. This however is from a covette and they said these things get pulled out so fast they cant keep them. The same stats from a camaro/firebird are around $900.
What i plan to do to the engine is stroke it to a 383, then evetually convert it to an LT4. I'm gonna just get the eninge, and the 383 kit, then install it, if its not really enough then i pull the money outta my *** for the LT4 swap. With these kinda stats going(383 LT1, with mild porting) what kinda times could i be making and what kinda horsepower ratings?
Ok 94 and 95 were OBD1 and came with the biggest cams. OBD1 is prefered because it responds well to mods and is relativley cheap to reprogram. 96 and 97 cars came with a tad smaller cam but were OBDII. Many OBDII guys convert to OBDI. The 1993 cars used a prom just like 3rd gens and aren't usually sout after for swaps. There is no difference in the heads or cam between the vette and f-body. The vette had a different oil pan and came with 4 bolt mains instead of the 2 bolt f-body version. The B body cars (impalla's/caprise) came with smaller cams and iron heads. They were rated at 260hp. Hope this gets you started. Usually 1994 and 1995 are the years to look for. However any 96 or 97 will be fine, but you may want to convert it to OBDI.
well local junk yard has many 94-97 LT1s, each is $825 with a 1 year unlimited mile warentee. $750 without warentee, i'm gonan do this cuase i'm gonan stroke my LT1 to a 383, making it a brand new engine again.
