Used a gearing calculator on the stock cadillac setup. 2.53s, .67 OD in the 200r4 and 205/70/R15s = 1,525 RPM @ 70 MPH in a 4,200 lbs 4 door luxo barge and it pulled just fine. Didn't even have to downshift to accelerate or climb small hills.
On the flat tappet cam I was just going by what I have seen on other oldsmobiles in the same year cadillac in wrecking yards. They typically have the vin 9 with the swirl ports and a flat tappet cam. Some have the Y with the swirl ports and the roller cam. The 9 cam with a tubular header looking exhaust manifold on this car similar to what you would find on some mid 80s 350 trucks.
I have seen some non OD transmissioned olds motors that came from GM with 2.14 gears in the rear. They weren't rockets off the line but would accelerate as well as a stock
350 w/ 3.08 once rolling.
Almost wish I had one in my 87 S15 Jimmy 4x4 in place of the 2.8 w/ 3.73s. The caddy weighs the same, has much quicker acceleration and gets 2 the mileage.
hmm, thats wild, thank *** I have the 5A heads. unfortunatly, three of the ex valves stems are "squished" at the very tops for some reason and the keepers are shot. sucks that the cheapest I've found them for is $10.99 a piece. but oh well, I think it's worth it. after I have the engine installed and the car on the road and in good order, I'm going to think about either a nitrous kit, or turbo set-up. I know the nitrous kit's an easy one, but I have alot of experience in turbo apps, and the comp ratio on this motor will be 7.9:1 which is perfect for turbocharging at a conservative 7-9 lbs boost. I could go as high as 12 and be save from what I've figured, but I can use a manual boost controller to determine that fluctuation when I need it. All in all I dont like the damaging effects nityrous has on engines, even wet kits, so I'll most likely pull a set of Z-cars twins with vac wastegates for the job. the stock manifolds on this engine would almost be perfect for the job, the question at hand though, is where to tap into the system for oil routing to the turbochargers? -Colt
ok guys, you'll be happy to hear this one, I just bought a $6000 FULL roller 355 motor. pop-ups, full comp cam roller setup, not magnums but aluminum orange ones, edelbrock performer rpm REALLY tall intake, holley 750, lots and lots of chrome, rebuilt, everything one could want and I spent a **** load on all SORTS of accesories. all I have to get now are the headers (gonna run manifolds for a while) and a chrome engine scoop to stick out of the hood. the olds 307? part trade on the new engine. So I guess all you guys can say I told you so now. lol. later guys:rolleyes
lmao, man, I HAVE to get pictures of this engine tomorrow. this thing is HOT. wait till you guys see, I've got $800 in accesories into it already. -Colt
