Both are RPO codes for a particular top end V8 option for f-bodies and vettes along with any other car that may use that type of motor nowadays. Both use multi port fuel injection set-ups and are 350 and 346 cubic inches repectively. In stock form LT1's make about 300 at the crank and LS1's about 350. There are many vehicles that have used versions of both over the last 10 years. The LS1 is an all aluminum motor with a nylon composite intake manifold. The LT1 (f-body/vette version) has aluminum heads and iron block. These are only the basics. A little research on the internet can give you far more technical details. I will spare you from them now and leave the homework up to you. Since this is not a TBI question and I assume you are considering swaping one into your 3rd gen, I will move it to the correct forum.

the LT1 came in the 4th gen z28's and made 275 hp i believe. Also found in various other cars (caprice cop cars, suburbans, etc.)

LS1 makes 350 hp iirc, and is found in the late model vettes.

The new LT1 motors ('92-97 Corvette/Camaro, etc) were just named after the original LT-1 that was around from 1970-72. It was the Corvette Hi-Perf 350 and the Z28 motor at the time, and was used by Don Yenko in some special Novas. It was a real fire breather at the time. Stock power in 1970 was 370hp, which was better than alot of big blocks were advertised as having at the time (think 350hp-396ci or the 335hp-428 CJ motors)

Basially, GM just recycled the LT1 name so that enthusiasts would notice it as a performance engine, not just a smogger 350.

Um, no.

LT1 came in 92-97 Corvettes, 93-97 Camaro/Firebirds and I think 94-96 Impalla SS/Caprice/Roadmaster

LS1 came in 98 and up Corvettes and F-Bodies. Originally rated at 305 for F-bods, 325 for vettes, up to 405 for the LS6 in the Z06 vettes.

Yup except the LS1 was out for the f-bod in 98 and 97 for the vette. The vette is always one model year ahead. Don't forget that there are in essence 4 versions of the LT1 and 5 versions of the LS1. However, the different displacment versions get a different RPO than LT1 or LS1.

So do you plan on swapping this into a 3rd gen?
