3.4 Crate Motor In An 84 Camaro

BEING A GM EMPLOYEE, I HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET A 3.4 CRATE MOTOR FROM GM TO REPLACE A TIRED 2.8. I WANT TO KEEP IT AS ORIGINAL LOOKING AS POSSIBLE DUE TO PENNSYLVANIA EMISSION INSPECTIONS, AND I'M GETTIN TOO OLD TO DUE THE V8 SWAP. WILL THIS ENGINE FIT IN AN 84 CAMARO WITH A 5 SPD AND A HYDRAULIC CLUTCH? GM ONLY TELLS ME THAT IT WILL FIT S10'S. I THINK THEY SAY THAT DUE TO EMISSION STANDARDS FROM YEAR TO YEAR. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Welcome aboard.

Since you're going from V6 to V6, the V6 forum is a little better place to look. For instance, even though I don't frequent that forum, I found this in a couple minutes http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...hreadid=256713 .

(This isn't a big deal, but just so you know, most members prefer "regular" typing with both lower & upper case, rather than all caps. A little easier on the eyes.)

Here's the link to Ked85's article.

A short edit to let you know that Ked85 was swapping a 3.4 into his 1985. Most (and maybe all of the information) should work for you.

Redraif and I did the swap in her 87 Firebird. Its pretty well documented on her site:
http://www.cardomain.com/id/redraif

We used a 3.4 from a 95 Camaro in her car. Honestly, if you are wanting to stay with the V6, the 3.4 is the way to go. Nearly everything externally from the 2.8 can be reused, but you'll need to use the balancer and flywheel from a 3.4. If any questions come up either ked or I can probably answer them.
