harmonic balancer help !!!

ok i have gotten a remanufactured 350 and when i got it there were already keys in the crankshaft for the harmonic balancer. Well I bought a brand new balancer and i recieved two new keys with it. I didnt replace the keyes cause i thought that it would be fine with the ones lareayd in. Well I'm trying to pound the balancer in and it wont go any further but it has about a quarter of an inch to go before getting near the timing cover. Do i need to remove the balancer and replace the keys with the ones it came with ?

you do NOT "pound" a balancer in.....EVER. there is a tool for such a job that can be rented cheaply at most parts store. if the hammer has contacted the outside ring of the balancer then you may have fubar'd your new balancer already. go get a harmonic balancer installer and do it the right way.

in the official dictionary of TGO, it means you broke it if you hit the isolated rubber ring of the balancer

Yes.

FUBAR - there are variations, but one that won't get filtered is "fouled up beyond any repair".

oh well thats just freaking great. WEll I was pounding the balancer witha a rubber mallet so i dont think it hurt the balancer at all. I believe they called it a dead mans hammer or something like that.
