What do you think of this combo?

I have an 88 trans am. Currently a 305, soon to be a 350. I have a 700R4 and 2.73 gears.

Now here are the parts I was planning on putting in the 350. What are your opinions.

I planned on getting a shortblock from http://www.crateengine.net/ it is the 350/355 c.i. Circle Track one
Mini ram
Comp Cams 264 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft 210 / 220, .480 / .480 112
AFR 195cc SBC Cylinder Heads 68 cc chamber
Comp Cams Pro-Magnum Non-Self-Aligning Roller Rockers 1.5 ratio
Slp 1 3/4 Shorty
Mac off-road pipe
Mac exhaust w/chrome tips

Thanks for your opinions.

That seems like a pretty good combo, althought I would say 180cc heads over the 195cc ones.

What intake are you planning on running?

I must respectfully disagree, with a miniram and 350, i think the 195 cc head would be a better match. The miniram flows well past 6500 rpm on a 350, so your heads should keep up with the larger intake runners.
The only problem is that lame cam. With a miniram, i would get a comp cam XE 268 cam or bigger.
Are those flat top pistons? That would dictate what size you want your combustion chamber to be.

Bigger ports have lower air velocities and TQ at lower rpm than big ports. the 195cc don't flow all that much better than the 180cc heads, besides head size has very little to do with upper rpm power - flow and valvetrain do.

Obviously bigger heads are going to flow more, giving you more HP up top.
The way i see it, the 10-15 ft-lbs he would lose down low, where he couldnt really use it anyways, would be more than made up in the extra HP he would see.
There are plenty of guys with AFR 195s and TFS 23* heads (also 195 cc) on 350s that have no complaints of low RPM TQ loss.
