i'm going to put a 350 tpi engine from an 89 trans am and put it into an 85 camaro that had a 305 carb. i was wondering how i would wire up the 350 and what stuff i would have to change. also any wiring diagrams that might be useful and where i could find them.
if its the full tpi setup , you will need the wiring harness , ECU , and hell wouldnt that just drop it in from there ? i remember reading some place thats all ya realy need
i have the ecu and the wiring harness. i don't think the connectors will match up. i think the number of connectors and the type of connectors is different.
So your wiring harness for the TPI doesn't plug into all the sensors/connectors on the TPI intake? Sounds like you have the wrong harness or ECM then. You need to be more specific than "the connectors" though- there's alot of them.
the wiring harness connect fine to the engine but there are other connectors and wires that are supposed to connect to the car and i don't know how to hook them up b/c the engine that came in that car was a 305 carb.
Your obviously going to have to work out fuel delivery. Try to find fuel lines from a camaro that came with a TPI unless you want the peace of mind bending all of it yourself. Your going to need an electric fuel pump. The one in the carb'd tank only puts out about 5-8 PSI max, and you need at least 45 PSI for your TPI to cooperate. As for wiring, are you talking about the ones that enter the interior through the firewall? Are you using an automatic tranny?
yeah, the wires going into the firewall. i have a 350 automatic transmission that i'm gonna put in it. what's the difference with the fuel lines. how are the tpi ones different frm the carb ones? are they bigger to let more gas through?
You'll get a good return on investment with regard to power and fuel economy if you just put the 350 in place of the 305 with all of the original factory carb equipment running the 350. Certainly a lot less power, and with proper exhaust and air cleaner, it will certainly make more power than the TPI would. Fuel economy wouldn't be quite as good, but acceptable.
