No one here is gonna believe me

Me and my neighbor just pulled my 350 out with no cherry picker or pulley, just by hand. I dont know how the hell we did it but we got it out with just a jack, a piece of wood and some tires. I wish I took pictures because no ones gonna believe me. Any one else have any crazy stories like this??

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

yeah we almost killed ourselves, we had the intake and heads off the motor and we just tipped it forward then I got underneath and jacked it up on the harmonic balancer, then we layed a blanket and a piece of wood on the nose of the car and picked it up and rolled it onto that then we rolled it off of that onto some old tires on the ground.

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

I have seen a guy pull a 2.2 chrysler out one time, by himself. Huge guy we called Big Chris. For obvious reasons.

We had an old junk car on a trailer on time, and we needed to get it off quick. We were in a hurry to go and get a car. We just chained it to a tree, and took off with the truck and trailer. If was funny, but the neighbors seemed a little freaked by it.

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

I believe it, I lifted my shortblock with another guy into the back of a pick-up. that was heavy. I'm 130 pounds lol. So i'd imagine its possible to take one out of a car. That is kinda crazy though, i would have forked out the money for a hoist though not worth killing yourself or the car. I think you can even rent hoist if you want.

A friend and I pulled a 350 short block out of his 69 Nova with a chain and a 4x4 post. It was hard lifting it that high to clear the grill but we got it.

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

Lol, thats awesome. I was able to pick up and carry a ford 302 shortblock (using a lift chain), but that was only from one end of the garage to the other. That was hard enough, I wouldn't want to try a whole engine.

Back when I had my 88 gta parts car, i had to get it on a car trailer, and it had no engine or trans. I tried pulling it with a chain, but the whole trailer was moving. So I wound up putting a mattress between the car and my truck bumper, and pushing it

Another time, my buddy bought a new longblock for his ford escort (inline four), and he carried it home in the hatch of an '89 firebird...

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

I sold a 1986 Corvette on Ebay. The car had no front suspension or front body parts. I still had the shortblock and transmission in the car as well as the complete back half from the doors back. This old guy who bought it asks if I had a cherry picker to get the front end on his trailer so he could winch it the rest of the way up. Before I could get the cherry picker out, he got between the two front rails and lifted the thing like a rickshaw and loaded the car by himself. I was blown away!!!!

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

You guys think all of thats crazy and nuts, think of seeing a dwarf man next door put a 454 shot block in a 14 foot aluminum boat, and haul it to the local marina for new heads.. not only the thought of that being funny, but being outside on your dock with a few beers in you then seeing the guy and his engine flip 30 feet down the canal.

i pissed my pants for hours.

no lie.

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

This reminds me of when I was in high school. Me and some friends used to go to the u-pull it yards for the $30 all you can carry specials. Whatever you could carry through the front gate in one trip was $30. All you could drag on a hood was $50! Ive seen some pretty innovative/ entertaining ways people got their stuff out of there. I watched a guy pull an automatic trans out of an 80-ish ford van only using old tires. Then he carried it out with his bare hands. Im not talking the aluminum cased A4LD ... this was like an iron-cased E4OD with probably like 15 quarts of ATF in it. Must have weighed over 300lbs.

Re: No one here is gonna believe me

Vega engines are light I have a 2.0 cosworth vega engine that im building up for my miata killing 78 monza with 6 quarts of oil and all accesories they wieghed less than 250lbs. Though when I lived in GA my nieghbor and I pulled the 460 big block out of his 68 ford f100 after breaking the engine lift ( we got another one later) we had to carry it about 50ft to his shed, after we put it there I had to go to the doctor for x-rays because I had damaged my perviously broken back again. Last engine pull I did was in a 88 s10 with a 4.3 and the guy wanted to winch the engine and 700r4 at the same time from a 5in diameter branch, I should have let him but he probly wouldn't be around to laugh at if I did so I charged him almost double and I had a full engine swap done in about a week because S10's are the devil and you have to lift the body to get to the tranny bolts (our body mount bolts were rounded off).

Reminds me of when I got the engine I rebuilt for my car. My wife had a '91 dynasty and i got a complete 350 vortec in the trunk... had to take off the intake to get it closed. I thought she was going to kill me.

The quote thing didn't work right, but it's from Ward's post.

You chopped off the "open quote" part. Fixed it for you.

Well, this has gone far enough. It's tech merit was questionable from the beginning.
