TPI EGR?

I swapped my 86 RS's 6 cyl with a 350 TPI, but the engine was originally a vortec out of a marine application, im using a ECU that was chipped to run a vortec, but was modded for my cam and the TPI.. obviously a custom harness. I have the EGR wire for a 00'+ vortec style EGR, and i just have it blocked off and the smogger is going to shoot me next month when he notices it, is there any egr valve for a vortec engine that will mount to the tpi base plate, or what would be the best model egr to go with and mod, and how should i mod it?

John

Re: TPI EGR?

so you have vortec TPI setup on a vortec headed motor thats using a newer style ecm for that vortec motor?

I dont know of a EGR valve that wil work with TPI and later model harnesses.

You can run a thirdgen TPI wiring harness tho and run factory TPI L98/LB9 style EGR valve. what you will need to do is run the SDPC vortec EGR kit. You get the exhaust from the header tube, and run it to the back of the TPI base manifold where it will feed the EGR valve. this is how corvette L98's do it

Re: TPI EGR?

I have a vortec block, with 89 style heads and a 89 TPI. an OBD-II ECU/Harness modded for the TPI. Has the EGR wire for the Vortec CSFI setup. Tell me more about this SDPC vortec egr kit?

John.

Re: TPI EGR?

IIRC the vortec EGR is all electronic. The 89 TPI has an electric controlled vacuum switch(?) to the valve located under the plenum. some one please jump in if I screwed that up.

Yes, im quite sure your correct on that one m8. But that isnt necessarily helping the situation, i dont want to be running in open loop with the EGR disconnected.. So i need to find some kind of kit or help to mod a votec egr to sit on my base plate :-O

Re: TPI EGR?

ahh obdII setup, thats what i want to do but i dont need EGR. the 89 heads and 89 TPI are fine, i just wonder if you can adapter the 89 EGR wiring plug to the OBDII harness just with a simple cut and splice, but yeah TPI one has a switch thats electronic and vacuum operated

Anyway, the SDPC kit is like this. It runs the L98 corvette style EGR system. Instead of getting exhaust gas from the heads like the camaro/firebird, the corvette gets it from the header and it feeds back into the rear of the manifold.

i cant find a picture at this time tho. sdpc doesnt have the pic either but heres the link to the kit

problem is you STILL would need to convert to TPI harness

Re: TPI EGR?

So what do I do if I'm putting a 1989 TPI from a Corvette in my 87 Iroc?

I want to be able to pass smog.
