My block hugger headers hit my knock sensor so I have to move it. Two questions: Does it have to be in the water jacket (knock harmonics), and where would be a good alternate location?
No, but I have found a lot of info for my TBI swap here and thought maybe someone might know. Is there a requirement to drive a Camaro to ask a question here?
Thanks, I also surfed the Mustang area and was told the Fords are mounted in the head from the factory and that knock sensors are just pizio generators and relativly the same. So I had room on the Passenger head and fabricated a solid mount. Thanks again.
I know this is an old post but I have a 92 TPI that I am having the same problem with the block huggers hitting the knock sensor. I am new to EFI and am learning as I go. What does he mean made a solid mount for the knock sensor? Does he mean he made a mount for the knock sensor to just rest the sensor against the head?
Thanks for you help. Does the sensor have to be mounted directly in the block if it is moved. I was thinking of taking a piece of flat stock (as short as possible) drilling and tapping it and mounting it to the block. It would still get the vibration from the engine but would it be enough or would this total not work.
I'd say the chances of the knock sensor maintaining the same level of sensitivity is pretty low. The attenuation from the plate, or possibly resonance from it, would likely render the knock sensor ineffective. I don't know for sure, either, how much of a role the coolant plays in the tuning of the KS.
