406 or 383

I have a L98 350 in the car now but I am doing a engine rebuild over the winter. I have a 400 short block and 400 crank in my garage. Some ppl suggest me using the 400 crank in my L98 and making it into a 383 others tell me to go for the 406.... what engine would u guys consider better????

Re: 406 or 383

What is your budget?

Do you want to go fast? OR faster yet?

Build the 400 while your car still runs. When the 400 is complete, swap it over a weekend.

Then, either put the 350 in a corner or sell it to recover some cost.

However, make sure the 400 is rebuildable (no cracks, etc).

Re: 406 or 383

yeah, I'm leaning towards the 406. I just need to have a short block built..I'm going to be using the Brodix 200IK heads that I have on my 350 on the 406. The are alittle big for my 350 but band new and will swing over to the 383 or 406. I'm guessing it should cost me less the $2K for a short block

Re: 406 or 383

if your set on building a 383 with that 400 crank then i'd just build the 406. Do a 383 with a proper 383 stroker kit

406 is nice. Good solid power all over. easily 11's with a streetable setup. I got 11.67 so far out of my 383 without too much effort. 406 would be the same if not more.
