I have a 1986 iroc that i would like to swap in a 472ci. cadillac, turbo 400 short tail, searched board could not find any information on this type of swap.I know it would be a drop in to do a 350/383/400 sb but i don't have one so I gotta use what I got,any information would be appreciated.
Thanx Guys.
There was a guy in fort benning that had done that.... he used a kit to put in the 400 trans (torque arm hook-up). The front had a tubular k-member, and custom motor mounts (steel plates, bent and drilled). He did all the wiring himself, but that's easy with the manual. Custom headers and boneyard radiator finished off the main components. I wish I could remember more. It would carry the front tires when he got done.

472 or 500 Caddy swap is no different than any other foreign engine swap such a Pontiac, Olds, Buick. It will fit however a lot of custom work will need to be done. Since you already have the matching transmission, that makes it easier.
I think to carry the front wheels for me would be nice but I know it would take a lot more green than I could come up with.I also know that I could make it easy on myself by swaping in a small block, but I want something a bit different every where you look there sits a SBC,best bang for the buck I know, but sick of looking at em.Thanx guys for all your time and wisdom
If you want something different that's fine. Personally, I've never spent any time explaining to somebody why they were looking at my tail lights. If I can save money doing something tried and true then I will.

may be heresy, but get an ecotech, mod it for up to 1000hp (gm may still have the guide available), get a tranny & rear that will hold it, and have fun.
back to topic...... there was a thread a while back onsomeone who was doing this, even cut the firewall to sit the engien back some to offset the weisght ditrbobution. I tried searching for it a while ago but couldn't find it.
I think this would be a killer swap,as long as someone has the time and fabrication skills to make it happen.Fabbing stuff up is cheap as long as you possess the skills and equipment to make it happen.Granted, the big Caddys are spent at 4000 rpm, that just means longer engine life, and if you making 500 lb. feet of torque at that RPM,then there's not much need to twist it hard.I say if your not afraid of the work and have the skills needed to make it happen,go for it!It may be nonconventional, and you'll get friction for it,but I bet with some chassis mods it would be a hoot!
