'89 350 Truck block - am I missing something here (with pics)

Howdy, folks!

I have an 1988 Camaro Coupe that originally had a 305. I'm swapping in a 383 and going to carb.

My engine is almost all done, but I just notice a possible clearance issue:

I've been building this engine up for a while now, and I started by buying an engine block from a local machine shop. The new 350 engine block (coded TPK, and seems to come from a 1989 truck) has the motor mounts all the way towards the from of the block.

By my measurements, it doesn't look like this engine will fit on the stock V8 motor mounts - it ends up being mounted too far to the back of the engine compartment (less than 0" of clearance between the back of the block and the firewall).

Am I missing something, or is this a common setup that would require different motor mounts? I swear - I searched around the threads here and other places, and all I see are references to LSX engine swaps...

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Looks like standard Chev V8 mounting. BBC and SBC V8 engines share the same engine mount locations measured from the bellhousing. The mounting bosses on the side of the blocks are all in the same position for all the gen I SBC. The motor mounts on your 305, 350 or a 400 block will be the same distance away from the bellhousing. How much of the motor sits forward of the mounts doesn't matter but all the SBC blocks have the same external dimensions. The engine will sit right back to the firewall.

Those adapter plates in the first link are to install a Gen I SBC into a car that originally came with an LS1 engine. The second link is adapter plates to put a V8 into an S10.

Other way around, actually (Summit's description is weird). You can put an LS1 engine in with stock mounts with them. Except can't use f-body LS1 AC compressor.

Anyway, yes, your engine has stock SBC mounts.
