Not swapping just replacing

I have purchased a rebuilt 305 long block for $1K from Hi-Performer (basically a stock replacement) and will be putting on World S/R Torquer heads and hooker headers with an Edelbrock performer #3701 Manifold and a rebuilt CCC QJet 4 barrell and a slightly upgraded bump stick...I already have all these.

When I drop in the new engine, I would like to get a new wire harness...Can I buy a complete replacement wire harness and if so, where should I look for it?
Also, any suggestions for all the mechanicals (water pump, alternator, power steering and brackets) replacements?

I am not looking for a killer stomping package, but something that looks nice and functions solidly for a weekend driver.

Can I get to a sub 15 sec 1/4 mile with this set up?

You aren't going to find a new harness from GM. Painless might have something, but I really doubt it - CC carb isn't the most popular swap.

Best bets are to either find a harness in good shape, or re-do yours.

Ditto brackets & accessories. You might want to check out the "Father Son" swap sticky in the top section of this forum. They spent a lot of elbow grease making the stock stuff look right. Now, I wouldn't do the color they did, but, then, it wasn't my car, either. The process is still the same, whether you repaint to stock, paint your favorite color, or have them coated in some fashion.

Billet would be the other choice, but again, the mid-late-80's stuff isn't the typical aftermarket market. A full serpentine set-up would be a possibility, and that is supported by the aftermarket.

Re: Not swapping just replacing

Is the Serpentine swap pretty straight forward or will it involve fabrication and manipulation?

Member JamesC bought the factory retrofit kit. I'm sure if you PM'd him he'd be willing to discuss the process with you.

The factory never did serpentine and carb together. If you went to the junk yard and pulled the stuff, the harness wouldn't match up, and you'd have some fabrication/modification ahead of you.
