Car: 81z-28&89gta Engine: 355 in the z & L98 vette in the 89 Transmission: TH350/700R4 Axle/Gears: 3;73/3;27 | 305 is out L98 vette ?? ok folks,I have been doing some searching and I believe my setup should work with no problems.
I have an 87 corvette alum. head 350 and running a sd setup in the car.
I read that the 91-92 tpi setups will work just fine on either because they both have 21 lb inj.
Someone that is ABSOLUTELY sure, please post and verify that.
Anyway, heres a couple pics of the car as of today.
The 730 ecm already has been prog. to remove the vats, egr and A.I.R. so I'm good there.

Car: 82 Berlinetta(2)/57 Bel Air Engine: 86 LG4-> ZZ3(LS1)/mild 396 Transmission: TH700(T56)/TH400 Axle/Gears: 3.23(4.10)/3.73 | For the record, L98 injectors are 22 lb.
The MAF vs. SD issue isn't the injector size, but equipment. You just need to have all of the SD parts & sensors on the engine & TPI.
Hopefully you've addressed the oil pan/oil pump issues. |

Hopefully you've addressed the oil pan/oil pump issues. | I did a search on here, and someone had posted that the 91-92 tpis both had 21lb. inj. instead of prev. 19(305) 22(350)
And my car is s/d already, just going with a alum. head corvette l98 instead of the 305.What are you talking about oilpan oil pump issues? |

If you have a complete SD system, underhood and ECM, you should be good to go. |

What size inj. would you rec. for a stock l98 w/alum. vette heads and also what cam?I plan on keeping it pretty much stock.
Also,my car already has no egr or smog pump so no issues there.
I've been searching here for hours and seem to only keep getting myself even more confused.
so can someone lead me in the right direction? |

The motor was completely stock, my buddies run a shop that buys wrecked vettes and parts them out this one was rolled, the motor still ran they called me up and i checked it out it ran great in the vette so i gave them 1000 bucks for it the 700r4, wiring harness and all weather computer (pretty good deal i think) and the next day they had it all pulled for me. i took it home and bolted it in with no problems and without changing a thing. I have heard that the oil pans dont fit b4 but mine did and im 99% sure it was completely stock for the record....

I got them installed onto the pistons just fine but, when I put one of the pistons in the ring compressor and go to tap it in it stops as soon as it hits the first oil ring.
I don't get it.I tried putting the old oil rings on and the piston went right in.
The new ones seem like they aren't compressing. Is it possible that I'm installing them incorrectly?
I followed the instr. that came w/them but they just plain don't fit!!
Any help out there on this??? |

Check the rings in the cylinders off of the pistons. If you can't get them in without overlap, or they have zero gap, you've got the wrong rings for your cylinder diameter. |

been on the phone and turns out I got the wrong ring set sent to me.
New set on the way.
Trust me five7kid,my ring compressor was plenty tight enough!I actually held it in a vise since my hands were so oily!LOL!
The problem I had was only in the lower(oil control rings)
Holding the assembly in my hand with no ring compressor, the rings above & below the spacer ring had a huge gap that wouldn't even give any movement when I squeezed them by hand.
Anyway, thanks for the help so far.
I have a feeling I'm not out of the barn yet on this ride.
And thank you Kevin91Z for the input on my my v/s. |

I spent so much time on paint and body work that this just had to be done!
I couldn't afford an LS engine so,this is what I had to work with! Not to bad

| Re: 305 is out L98 vette ?? i am doing the same thing but to a 86 corvette. i got the 90 L98 motor and had the same problem with the rings. I ended up getting rings from hastings and had no problems installing them. They cost a little more but well worth it. They only put this piston in 90 and 91 L98 vetts. the oil ring is very shallow. Cheep rings just wont hold up.
Good luck |

I went to install the bracket for the alt.&p/s today and the bracket won't line up to the holes in the head!
I knew I shouldn't have used that water pump from my old 87 Iroc I had sitting in the box.It was new but, totally wrong for a serpentine belt setup!
Another lesson learned for me!LOL!
Picking new w/p up tommorow! |
