Need new engine!

Car: 84 Z28
Engine: 305
Transmission: 5speed
Axle/Gears: 3:23 posi disc brakes
Need new engine!
I have a 82 z28 with a 305 crossfire inj that needs rebuilding. Should I save the money and but a more modern drivetrain in and if so what are some good suggestions? I'd like to do some novice racing with it. Maybe autocross or some type of time attack.I'm new and thanks for your help.

Find yourself a 350 to be building until the 305 is absolutely dead. Then, abandon the cross-fire injection. Do you have smog-test?
As for a more modern engine, the LT1 and LS1 are both options, and both covered elsewhere here. But to get the car going fast easily, just do a carbureted 350.
You'll also be needing to upgrade the entire exhaust system. Good luck with your project!

if you don't have a budget planned go with a ls series or ls series motor. I would not go with a carb if it will be street driven a lot. Tends to lower your mpg drastically. Yeah I am not a big fan of the cross fire either

the crossfire 305 is dead. I do have a 350 4 bolt main block and heads it is out of an old dump truck.I could rebuild it but I am not sure it will work with the more modern trans or a TPI system.
