I have just recently bought a 5.7 vortec and would like some advice on my build for it. I wanted to strip the whole thing down and perhaps bore it out more. This will be my weekend hot rod when im finished with it. will any of the LS1 series parts be usuable on it? i.e. intake, throttle body ect....? Any suggestions besides changing it to a TBI?
You don't bore the cylinders to make the engine bigger and more powerful. You bore the cylinders to clean up wear so the pistons and rings have a good surface to run on again.
Do you have TBI now? If so, there's a sticky in the TBI forum about building a budget 350 that starts with a Vortec engine.
Ok maybe I need to be more specific since people only want to correct me on what I am saying. I might bore it out say maybe .30 over and change the rotating assembly to turn it to a 383 or something. Keyword is might. I also stated "besides changing it to a TBI"! Does anyone have any other suggestions or should I just pull the heads and roller cam and junk the rest?

five7kid was saying that there is a budget build for a vortec 5.7 in the tbi forum, you could put any injection system on that engine. The 5.7 vortec is based on the gen 1 sbc not the lsx, plus five7kid is pretty knowledgeable, I personally try to stay on his good side.
Numb383 gave you a list of different injection systems you could use, i will add a factory type TPI system with a different base.
If I were you I would follow the build-up listed in the TBI section because it is based on what you have, the block you have is already set up for a roller cam so that is money you wont have to spend on a different block, plus I remember reading that the metallurgy of the later blocks is far superior to the older blocks.
Point taken, but obviously I havent been specific enough to what I have. I have a 1999 5.7 Vortec that came from a 1999 chevy 2500. It is a complete engine with the SFI and computer. I dont know what to do with the computer yet as I have a manual tranny. I dont want the obvious. I know that just a bore is to clean up the cylinders. I dont doubt that alot of people know what they are talking about, therefore the reason I posted this. Too many are being so one minded about telling me things that have already been covered in the forums. I get it, alot of people here love the TBI. I dont need to even mess with that. I'm looking for fresh ideas or other peoples ideas on what I should do with what I have. I'm looking for more than "turn it into a TBI". I'm not focusing on the injection system at this time. I just wanted some suggestions on making this a good build.
Not that it's all that hard to do, but I'm a bit confused what you're expecting from us.
Do you want information about building up the longblock? Do you want information about induction adaptability into a 3rd gen? Modifications to the heads? Cam selection?
Sorry, but I can't pick out from your original post and your responses to what people have suggested exactly what you're looking for.
Build a 383, get a new cam and full roller valve train, port up your heads, and spend some money for the Vortec-style Holley stealth ram or the GMPP Ram Jet. Both of those can be easily tuned, modified, and updated with a laptop computer if you want to add on later, and you'll easily make 450+ with that combo. Oh, and MAP MPFI, that's the other cool thing. That, or $300 will get you an Edelbrock Vortec-style TPI baseplate that stock runners and plenum will bolt up to. Sneaky, then nobody will know when they pop your hood.
Do what I tell everybody- get the Compcams CamQuest 6 software (free on the website) and play around with it. See what works and what might not
After re-reading some of your posts, leave it an SCFI Vortec, tune out the automatic tranny controls, and swap the entire thing into your F-body with a carb-style air cleaner over the throttle body. Then people will think you have the old H-code and just laugh when you offer to race for pinks. Or sell the long block to me. I'll supercharge it and toss it into my 4x4. It will be easier than swapping in the TPI like I was going to do.

The moderators will probably split this off into a thread of your own.
The Vortec 350 mounts just the same as the 305s that were offered in your car. You'll need to get an '87-up 153-tooth flexplate, no challenge there. To keep the Vortec EFI, you will need the computer and wiring harness from a Vortec 350 pickup or van. Preferably one with a manual trans, so it won't be looking for a 4L60E. It'll only look for a VSS, and you can provide that from any '87-up 700R-4.
You'll need to take the truck accessories off the front of the engine, they won't clear your hood. Use 305 accessories instead, they'll bolt right up.
