Oil filter gasket blowing out while priming 406 rebuild
I had 3 oil filters blow out will slowly priming my new 406 with a drill motor?
Lost like 5 quarts the first time because I didnt know it blow out. I went under the car after that and i could see the filter flexing under the pressure before the oil blow the gasket out again and showered me! This is a new rebuild never even run. Any ideas??????????????????????? and no i dont have the gaskets doubled up or anything like that. using HP4 Fram filters
Re: Oil filter gasket blowing out while priming 406 rebuild
Is this a high pressure high volume pump? By pass valve in the oil pump may be stuck. I know it sucks but need to pull the pan. We have a oil pump tester(oil pump dyno) we use at the shop before the pump goes on an engine. I have heard several bad storys on Fram filters but nothing like this.
Re: Oil filter gasket blowing out while priming 406 rebuild
Even if the bypass was stuck, the galleries and bearings should drain off most of the pressure. A filter should be able to easily handle 100 psi. If the filter itself blew, it would have to be a few hundred psi.
What all was done to the new engine?
I'd also say to get rid of that Fram filter and buy a Wix filter.
