BBC Remote oil filter??

Just purchased my 88 IROC with a 468 BBC, went to change the oil/filter, and that isn't going to happen, there isn't room to get the filter out with the headers and K member. So what remote mount kits are you using, where did you mount the remote filter, pics if you have them, and any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've never even driven a car with a big block, but I did a nice little google search for you. Seems like this site has what you're looking for. http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...&category=2253

Re: BBC Remote oil filter??

When I had Hooker Supercomp swap headers years ago, I had no problems accessing the oil filter. I now have Ed Quay headers with 2-1/4" primary tubes and can still access the oil filter. I use a System 1 filter so I can remove it, clean it and put it back on.

If you want a remote filter assembly, just go to Jegs or Summit and pick something. Here's a basic relocation kit.

Re: BBC Remote oil filter??

I have fabulous access to it, can take it off, and everything. But getting the old filter out either in between the oil pan, k member, or trying to go up top through the engine compartment isn't going to happen. So obviously I can not get the new filter on either

Re: BBC Remote oil filter??

You're going to have to make your arms flexible, and extremely skinny, or maybe take off the headers when you get a relocation kit.

Re: BBC Remote oil filter??

Many years ago I had a 74 ford van with a 302 and headers. I was able to loosen the filter from the top but had to go underneath and twist my arms around backwards to reach in and pull the filter out.

The only reason I can see why you can't get the filter out would be that the engine has headers from some other model car and they're not designed for the third gen. Somebody cheaped out and found something to fit not realizing why headers are made for specific models.

Although I have no problems getting my oil filter off and out, I need to remove the passenger side header to take the starter out. The header tubes run directly under the starter bolt and you can't get the bolt out with the header in place. Good thing I don't have to remove the starter regularly but I did have to replace it this winter. My header tubes are all separate and slide into the collector. Having individual tubes helps installation. I have to install one tube at a time like a puzzle. There's no way to drop the headers in as a complete assembly.

I'd suggest dropping or loosening the header to get the filter out.

Re: BBC Remote oil filter??

Couldn't tell you what headers are actually on the car, as the build info on the car is little to none. I do plan on pulling the engine this winter to either figure out what I have there, freshen it up, or to replace it if it doesn't last this race season.
