I was wondering which one of the serpentine systems would/would not fit my 1984 Z28. I'm doing a complete rebuild, as it has turned out, and I'd like to eliminate that WAY complicated array of supports, and brackets from the V belt system. I'll be keeping the AC, and would even consider using the newer, smaller diameter style AC pump, if it can be made to work/fit. I also won't be using the A.I.R. pump, and would like to be able to use one of the bracket that doesn't include a spot for this, though I'd use the other is necessary. Mainly hood clearance seems like it'd be the problem. I know that I want nothing to do with the TPI setup....looks kind of like a mix and match with Aluminum and steel support.

However, I wonder if you know whether or not the passenger side bracket from, I think, a pick-up truck with the larger air conditioning pump puts the air conditioning pump in the same position as the other bracket with the smog pump mounting included. The truck bracket is lots cleaner looking, and leaves the area around the fuel pump open. I know it is anal, but the smog pump version looks like something got left off. As for the rest of the questions, it does appear, after looking at all the pictures, that except for little pieces of hassel, everything will fit in the Z without hitting any body parts, like the hood. Yes?
By the way, Neitzsche was a pretty dark guy, and not all convictions are lies, or even half truths. Unfortunately, they have to be searched out, and don't lend themselves necessarily to clever turns of phrases.
Thanks, James. Sorry for the late reply, but I appreciate your answer. I checked out a lot of pictures, and realized that there are basically no problems with mixing and matching the brackets. The tpi versions of the serpentine system with the alternator on the drivers side all use the same bracket. And, since they all use the crank snout as their main pickup point for power, I fugure it must be the case that all of the various systems for the sbc must have pulleys that line up. The only problem might be the length of the belt. I think the truck belt will be right, and a junk yard will supply the "test" fit. The truck bracked without the smog pump is much more tidy looking, and leaves the fuel pump out in the open!
