385 fast burn intake question

My camaro has a 305 TBI in it now. I just bought a 385 fast burn but the crate motor didnt come with an intake. I am wondering how it would work if i just used my TBI off of my 5.0. And if so would i need to get it tuned? for that matter can my TBI setup even be tuned? or maybe need bigger injectors? Im trying to find the limits on my TBI setup. If i could take it to a dyno shop and have it tuned it will save me money instead of buying a carb.....which is less efficient

any insight is appreciated

The Fast Burn has Vortec-style heads. Your TBI intake won't fit.

There is a Vortec-style TBI intake available. But, it wouldn't feed a Fast Burn 385 very well at all. You'd be better off getting Vortec carb intake and using a carb to TBI adapter. You're going to need a bigger TBI unit, and you will need to tune the computer to have any hope of it running half-way decent.

It's more engine than is typically fed by TBI. It can be done, but it would run immediately and well with a 750 Holley & vacuum/mechanical advance distributor on it.

Re: 385 fast burn intake question

GM rated the 385 after testing with the ZZ4 intake, and the GM TBI Vortec intake is identical as far as the ports go. But the wise money is the Edelbrock Performer RPM AirGap Vortec intake, and a 750 carb. I suggest you also pull that weak cam out and install the LT4 HOT cam from GM. Assuming headers and good exhaust, that will get you 430 HP.

Re: 385 fast burn intake question

I have the zz4 hot cam already installed in my motor. I just dont want to go carb unless i have to....all my sensors will be throwing lights.i would have to change linkages and fuel pumps.....its not worth it if i could just buy a bigger tbi and chip my comp...

Re: 385 fast burn intake question

Holley makes a couple of 670-cfm TBs for fullsize halfton pickups with the 350, get the one for the same year as your car.
