I have found a good priced 3rd gen camaro with a rod knock in the v6. I have perfectly good V8 in the garage it just needs a ring job. I was wondering if there would be any problems bolting this on to the camaro ? Will the V8 fit the tranny ? and will the tranny run without the computer ? I origionally had the v8 in my chevy truck with a 92 700r4 and no computers whatsoever so I am hesitent on the switch over to this tranny with a computer. I have the motor mounts for the v8 so that is no problem and can get the gas pressure right with the regulator of the line on the truck. just need to know if there would be any problems with bolting the v8 up to the tranny and if any more problems would arise. Looked all over the net and you guys seem like you know what you are talking about so thought I would ask here, never owned a camaro but would love to get it if everything checks out !
Edit: forgot to add that my 700r4 is shot, that is why i have stumbled uppon this camaro, has a good tranny and body, just engine is on its last legs (V6) thats where my engine comes in (V8)
yes but it doesn't say anything about the tranny, and what it will run off when i rip the computer out. and if the V8 will fit the Stock tranny thats bolted up to the V8. or if I have to re-gear anything in the back due to a bigger engine. sorry about this but kind of putting all my eggs in one basket on this one. need to make sure it will work before i commit to it.
V6 & V8 trans have different bell housing, swap that and you could use the v6 trans I suppose. However, the v6 version is also weaker.
Plenty of people run carb SBC with a 700r4, so that is no problem.

well i suppose i will go pick it up and have a shot at it. wost case i have to drive with the busted v6 for a while. if it has removable bellhousing it should fit on my v8 then, its a 91 so its the newer 30 spline 700r4. worst case i will need to put my tranny in there and run with no reverse gear for a bit if it comes to it. but mine is a 92 700r4 and it has removable bell housing so i dont see a problem.
"1. Anything the V6 bolts to, and anything that bolts to the V6, will be different than the V8."
ah well its to late now... pulled the motor and tranny out and...*** IT ! anyone needs a v6 tranny pm me lol. worked all weekend with a few buds got it almost ready.
unplugged all the electrical crap, got the v6 out, put the v8 in behind my old truck 700r4. my 700r4 needs a new sun gear so no reverse but atleast i can go foward . hooked up all the throtle linkage and all that jazz along with most the coolent lines. just need to set the timing and get ahold of some block huggin headers and its set.
I can't get to the heater hose inlets on the firewall because of space, is it possible to just cap off the heater hoses on the block without problems ? or will they have to be hooked up.
and has anyone had problems with hood clearence ? my hood seems to hit the dog dish and the alternator, so i cant close it all the way
