Old Firebird Freak NEEDS HELP

I should start be explaining the title of the tread. In my younger years I had several birds, a 67 that I loved a 78 and then in 1984 I brought my first "NEW" car my 84 bird. Well in 85 I got married and you know what is coming next, yes I sold the car because the payments (believe it or not the car only cost me $12.000 in 84) were killing us. Since 1985 I have had 3 great kids and yes ALL with the same girl that I traded my car for. Over the past 20 or so years my wife and kids would say; "Dad you should find another bird, you love them." I would find a something interesting every once in while but either timing or money kept me from jumping on it. This past April my son and I found I 1985 SE. It was rough and needed a lot so I left it but the following weeks after I would make comments to my son like; "Man I should go back a buy that Bird." Then while my wife was on vacation my son and I were riding around and he asked me where we were going. I told him I was going to go buy the Bird we saw. He laughed and said; "Man that was a while ago. It isn't going to be there." I made a $20 bet with him that it would be. I lost. Another chance to have a Bird again was gone. The following day was Father's Day, I found out where the Bird had gone. My son was storing it at my buddies house waiting for Fathers Day to give it to me. I sold my 1984 Bird 24 years ago because I got married and had kids, 24 years later me kids gave me one back!

SOOOOOOO
This is the reason for this tread. I need a lot of info. I want to pull the 2.8 liter that is in it and put a 350 Chevy that I have in. The 350 is carbed. I would like to stay carbed but want an Elderbroc Maniford and Card so this means going from EFI to Carb conversion. What do you suggest do I need to do?
ALSO
I want to go from Electronic Ignition to old fasion distributor
See I need a lot of info.
Help me out guys.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Now that's a cool story.

Did your son give you the $20 back?

What you're describing is not a legal swap in any state of the United States. It could be, but an Edelbrock carb and old-style HEI are not and can not be made legal.

The link AmorgetRS provided is the right place to start. Come on back if there is something that you don't understand, or if you have specific questions about your swap not answered by the sticky.
